Placing her cup down on the table in front of her, she takes a closer look at the large book Sam had put down earlier. Pointing to it and gazing back and forth between the brothers with a raised eyebrow, she silently asks for permission to take a peek at it. Sam and Dean share a look but both nod giving her the go ahead. Scanning the cover and flipping through a few pages, she sets the book back down and turns her attention to the papers and maps scattered all over the table.

"What are you guys researching?"

"Just a case." Dean says, eluding her question.

She looks up at him and cocks her head to the side. "I kinda figured that, do you think it's a ghost, vampire, werewolf, or something else?"

"I think it's possibly a demon but it could be a shifter." Sam offers, giving Dean a sideways glance.

"Do you mind if I take a look at what you have?" She smiles at the brothers, hoping they will accept her help.

"Umm..." Dean starts.

"That would be great. A fresh pair of eyes might be just what we need." Sam interjects over his brother.

"I can help with the research. I love to read." She looks over to Dean for his approval.

"I thought you knew stuff by 'listening and paying attention'." Dean's eyes roll so hard that she could almost hear them.

She presses her lips together and stares him down. "I read a great deal too."

"About lore? Do you even know how to take out a vampire? Stake to the heart or direct sunlight?" He glares at her, daring her to choose an option.

"Neither." She returns his glare and holds his gaze as she continues. "While direct sunlight will make them feel like they have a bad sunburn, it won't kill them. As to stakes to the heart, that won't do much, you need to cut off their heads. Dead man's blood can slow them down a bit but also will not kill them. I've heard that an angel blade or the colt can take out almost anything, so they may work too."

Both boys stand there stunned by her knowledge and are at a loss as to what to say. She crosses her arms in triumph. "You think I know about the Men of Letters and Hunters but not the creatures they deal with?"

Dean pauses for a few moments before he begrudgingly relents. "You can help out, just this once."

She quirks her eyebrow, as a wide beaming smile lights up her face. "Yay!"

She sits down and starts pouring over the information that the boys have gathered so far. Sam and Dean sit down opposite her and watch her as she hmms and mumbles to herself, while shuffling the papers into piles.

Mae finally lifts her glance back up to the brothers. "I'm definitely getting demon vibes on this. The attacks seem too scattered for a shifter, plus there was a lightning storm about a week before the abductions started. Blatantly demonic."

"Could still be a shifter, sewers are widespread and lightning storms can just be the weather." Dean counters.

Sam scoffs. "Which is why we've been bouncing back and forth between demons and shifters for the past few hours."

Holding her hand up for silence, they quiet down. "How about we do more research and try to figure this out instead of arguing about it?"

The boys look at each other and then back to Mae. They nod their heads in agreement. With a curt nod she picks up a large book and starts scanning the pages. They remain this way for about an hour.
