Grant x Female Reader

Trigger Warning: Hospitals, severe injuries, and disasters

You don't remember much before the blast. One moment, you were just sitting with your grandparents to have lunch in Geosenge town, the next everything is blurred and your ears are ringing, the only other sound was screaming from other people in town. You were barely able to make out a tall and bright structure in the middle of the town before blacking out.

You woke up at 10 years old again, sitting on a cliff with your childhood best friend: Grant. You were getting ready to leave town to begin a pokémon journey with your partner Bunnelby, but wanted one last day with him. "Man it's gonna be so boring around here once you leave." Grant complained. "You know you can always come with me? Maybe we can visit Professor Sycamore and get you a pokemon!" you told him. Truth is you badly wanted Grant to come, so you wouldn't have to explore Kalos alone, but Grant shook his head. "You didn't have to use one of that guys pokemon to get started, and I don't want to either. Once I find the perfect partner, then I'll catch up to you." You laughed, "Alright, but it better be soon! So you can't be too picky!"

The scene changed and you were stepping foot into Cyllage City again, it had been 11 years since then. You had completed the gym challenge years ago, but decided not to go after the pokemon league until Grant caught up to you. You never forgot about him throughout your journey and were eager to reunite with him. You had waited in Snowbelle City for a long time, waiting to see if Grant would make it there for a gym challenge, but you never saw him. You searched all over Cyllage for him, but it wasn't until you reached his parents home that they told you, Grant had left for the gym challenge awhile ago. Somehow you had missed him. In a panic, you brought out your Sigilyph and began flying back to Snowbelle, hoping that you may still see him, but as you were flying over Santalune city, you caught a glimpse of dark hair with shining gems in it. "Grant!?" Grant didn't hear you, instead he had his arm around a girl with short blonde hair, whom you recognized to be the gym leader Viola. Sigilyph slowly brought you down to the ground, away from Grant and Viola. They looked so...happy. You wanted to go say hi. See Grant again. Say hi to Viola. Tell them how happy you were for them, but you couldn't. Your feet wouldn't move, and it felt like something was squeezing your heart. You didn't say hi to Grant, you got back on Sigilyph, and went back to Snowbelle to continue the life you had there.

Everything was dark again for a long time, but then you could make out a sound. Not the memory of a sound, a real sound. A real snuffling sound, like something was sniffing around you. It was hard, but you forced your eyes open. It was too bright for a moment, but once your eyes adjusted, you found yourself in a hospital room. You had bandages all over your body, your body ached, and there was a table across from your bed covered in flowers and get well cards. You saw something big and brown in the corner of your eyes and turned. Your Diggersby was the one sniffing around, it was currently half buried in a basket of cookies next to the table. "D...diggersby...?" You quietly choked out. You voice was raspy and it hurt to talk, but as soon as it heard your voice, your Diggersby popped out of the basket, "Dig!" It ran over to your bed and hopped onto your lap, the same way it did when it was still just a Bunnelby. It hurt, but you wrapped your arms around it and held it close, warm tears fell down your face. "I'm sorry I scared you Diggersby! But..what happened?" "Dig, diggersby!" It replied. You heard a gasp from nearby. You turned to the doorway, and you felt your breath hitch, it was Grant. He had bags under his eyes, and they looked puffy and red. "___? You're awake..." You nodded slightly, "I am, do you know what happened?" Grant didn't answer, instead he rushed over to your bedside, and pulled you into his arms, squishing Diggersby between you both. "Grant..?" You asked. "I..I thought you were gone ___!" He squeezed you tighter. It hurt, but you were able to lift your arms around his frame and return the embrace. You were both shaking from the emotions, but then you remembered your dream. If Grant was here, his girlfriend might be too. You reluctantly pulled your arms away and gave him a bit of a push. Grant looked at you confused. You couldn't meet his eyes, "What happened Grant? How did I get here?" His gaze softened, "Apparently some people who called themselves Team Flare had built a weapon to destroy the Kalos region underground. When it was unearthed it caused a huge tremor in Geosenge Town, it's all destroyed. The pokemon center there miraculously made it though. You got caught up in it, but it looked like Diggersby here was able to get you and your grandparents out." Your heart stopped for a moment. "Grandma and grandpa...are they ok!?" You tried to get out of bed, but Grant laid a hand on your shoulder to prevent you from doing so. "They're in worse shape than you are due to their age, but the doctor said they're going to pull through. Your parents are with them." You relaxed a bit. Knowing your family was ok was good. "I guess they're the ones who told you I was here..when did you return to Cyllage?" Grant sat on the edge of your bed, "A while, I'm the gym leader there now.." You forced a smile, "That's great, just like Viola. You must have finally found your perfect partner..." "I heard you came to visit me a few years ago." You nodded, "When I got there they said you had been away for your gym challenge, so I went back to Snowbelle to wait for you. Guess I just missed you." You left out how you saw him and Viola together. If he wanted to tell you, he would. "Your parents told me you were visiting family in Geosenge..so when I heard the explosion...I bolted out of the gym to find you...Diggersby was pulling you and your grandparents out of the rubble when I found you all...___ I thought my heart had stopped when I saw you like that I-" you cut him off, "Where's Viola?" Your heart didn't want to hear more. "What?" "She's here right? I haven't seen her since my gym challenge." "She's..not here? Why would she be?" "She's your girlfriend?" Grant stared at you with wide eyes. "She...no. She's not anymore. We broke up last year." Your heart started to speed up, "How did you know? I haven't seen you since you left?" he questioned, smirking a bit. You felt your cheeks heat up, "Um..your parents?" "Don't lie." Diggersby moved into a more protective stance on your lap. "I..When I came back from my gym challenge, I went looking for you in Cyllage. They said you were on your gym challenge so I was heading back to Snowbelle to wait for you, but I passed over Santalune and..saw you both..." "___...why didn't you say something?" You didn't say anything for a moment. "___." "Because it hurt seeing you with her ok? Like someone had ripped out my heart. So I went back to my life in Snowbelle..." You and Grant stared at each other. He reached out and gently took a hold of your bandaged hand. "I...didn't even realized I felt that way about you, but I think..I've been in love with you since we were kids Grant.." "___...I...I broke up with Viola because I couldn't forget my feelings for you, I love you too" You couldn't stop the smile from coming to your face. Grant moved closer to you on the bed until you were face to face. Your Diggersby moved out of the way and covered its eyes, right as Grant pressed his lips to yours in a gentle kiss.

Thanks to Grant, you were up and moving again quickly. The trainer who stopped the "Ultimate Weapon" was champion now and you were moving back to Cyllage City to move in with Grant, finally able to pick up where you left out.
