Ash and Brock were invited to Slateport City in the Hoenn region to see their friend, May, compete in a contest. Since it's been a while since they all saw each other, of course everyone agreed. Ash was especially excited because he had just caught a Sobble and wanted to show his friends. "Brock when is May supposed to come on?" Ash asked the man next to him. Pikachu was sitting on Brock's shoulder while Sobble was on Ash's lap. Brock opened the contest program, "Hm, looks like she should be performing after someone named ___." Ash nodded and turned his attention back to the stage. It reminded him of when he also took tried taking part in a contest, but he really enjoyed pokémon battles more.
Soon the curtains opened and the announcer came onstage to do her usual spiel before introducing each contestant. Ash only half paid attention to all the performances while he waited for his friend to come on, compared to Brock who applauded loudly for every female performer. "Next up is ___ from Undella Town in the Unova region and her Frillish!" The girl stepped out and beside Ash, Brock let out a "Woah.." Ash finally looked up and felt his breath catch in his throat. The girl was...beautiful, not something Ash had ever thought of a girl. Her hair and makeup were perfect and she had a pink dress dress on that reminded him of a female Frillish.

The girl smiled brightly, not a hint of nervousness there, as she brought out a love ball. "It's your show Frillish!" She exclaimed as tossed out her ball, revealing a female Frillish. As soon as it came out, the Sobble in Ash's lap stood up and had sparkles in its eyes, "Sob! Sobble!" but Ash couldn't tear his gaze away from the girl. He watched her every move. "Frillish use rain dance!" Frillish began swaying back and spinning until rain drops started hitting the crowd. Sobble jumped happily. "Now dazzling gleam and then recover!" Dazzling lights erupted from the Frillish as it's body was now also covered in a soft glow." The audience cheered and 'Oooh'd' at the display. Ash looked toward the judges and saw that they were amazed too. Soon the rain subsided and both ___ and Frillish took a bow to a booming of applause. Even Ash had stood up and was clapping hard. "Wow Ash you got really into that performance, so did Sobble." Brock commented when Ash sat down again. "Well yea, she was amazing, right Sobble?" "Sob!" brock laughed, "I think Sobble liked that Frillish. Hey here comes May!"
Ash tried to pay attention to his friend's performance, he really did, but the whole time he kept thinking about ___ and how she looked onstage. He had never much been interested in girls before, but ___ was...His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of applause and he finally realized that May and her Glaceon had just taken their bow. "May did great huh?" Brock asked and Ash could only nod. "Yea, she was great."
May and ___ had both made it to the second round, but there was a break until then. Brock and Ash were taking the opportunity to stretch their legs outside. "So Ash, you were really paying attention to that girl ___ huh?" "What?" "Don't try to hide it, I know love when I see it! Right Pikachu?" "Pika!" Ash's cheeks pinkened. "And don't think I forgot about you and that Frillish Sobble!" Brock kneeled down to Sobble's level. Sobble just jumped around happily. A voice cam over the intercom, "The second round of the Slateport Pokémon Contest is about to begin! Please return to your seats!" Ash let out a sigh of relief, knowing he would have a break from Brock's teasing and he'd be seeing ___ again.
