"A new type of contest?" Dawn asked, confusion laced in her voice. Zoey nodded. Dawn had met up with her friends Zoey and Kenny at a café in Sunnyshore City, where they had heard they were holding an unofficial contest.

"The contest officials want to test out a new type of contest. But since this would be the first time trying it, winning isn't applicable to the grand festival." Zoey explained before taking a sip of her coffee. "But even so, I heard the grand prize is a giant load of berries and a cash prize!" Kenny added.

"But what is this new kind of contest?" Dawn asked again. "I believe it's a tag team. You sign up, and everyone is assigned a partner for the contest. You and your partner will have to come up with your two pokémon together, and the battle portion will be double battles." Zoey explained

Dawn's eyes lit up with excitement, "That sounds fun! I wonder who we'll get paired up with?"

After their lunch, they headed over to the pokémon center, where they were told they could sign up for the contest. "Wonderful, everyone will be assembling at Sunnyshore's northern beach later today to announce the pairings. Good luck!" Nurse Joy waved the trio off.

"Do you think any of us will be paired together?" Dawn asked. Kenny shrugged, "Maybe, but it looked like a lot of people signed up. Besides, I don't need you bringing me down, Dee Dee!" Kenny smirked. "What!?" Dawn exclaimed, stopping to glare at Kenny. Meanwhile, Zoey watched this all with an amused smile.

Finally, the time came, and coordinators flocked to the beach. There was a stage set up with a battlefield set up in front of it. On the stage was a large screen. A beautiful woman walked up with a microphone in hand. "Welcome to all you young coordinators! Thank you for participating in this contest today! As many of you know, we will be trying out a new style, a tag-team contest! You will be paired with another coordinator, whom you will work with to put on a performance for the first round! Those who make it to the second round will be participating in a double battle to become the winners! Each winner will receive a month's worth of berries and 10,000 pokedollars each! Now let's see our pairings!"

The woman gestured up to the screen where all the coordinators' pictures were thrown up on screen, linked to their partner's picture. It looked like there were 20 coordinators participating, so there were 10 teams.

Dawn finally spotted her picture but was slightly disappointed that she wasn't paired up with Zoey. She was fine not working with Kenny. Instead, she looked at the picture of a girl with [color] hair and [color] eyes. The name [Name] was underneath the picture. Dawn felt her excitement go up again, and her heart pounced. That girl was beautiful. Dawn immediately began looking around for her.

"Now find your partner! The contest is this Saturday, so you have until then to practice! Good luck!" The woman walked off stage as coordinators excitedly went to find their partners. "Looks like none of us got paired together. I'm going to go find my partner. Good luck, you guys!" Zoey waved and walked off before Kenny and Dawn parted ways as well.

Dawn looked around urgently. She had never worked with a partner for a performance before. She wanted to get to practicing as soon as possible. She felt a tap on her shoulder, "Dawn?" Dawn turned and came face to face with the girl in the picture. She was even more stunning in person.

Dawn felt her face redden, and her mouth go dry. "H-hi..." She managed to get out, then internally smacked herself for that weak response. The girl just smiled, "I'm [Name]. It looks like we'll be working together for the next few days."
