Chihiro was now in the elevator. While Byakuya and Chihiro did walk together, it was silent, just as the times before. This time Chihiro didn't care. He now knew for sure that Byakuya knew more than he let on. While that wouldn't necessarily be bad, the way he said it certainly did...
Still, he knew that it would be best to forgot that. If Byakuya's word was to be believed, he was going to reveal exactly what he knew in in trial. Chihiro just hopes that he does it, since he really wants to trust Byakuya, maybe be friends with him, even if the other boy doesn't share the sentiment.
Not that that matters now. Now it was time for the class trial, to find out who murdered Celestia Ludenberg.
Chihiro walked to his place between Byakuya and Hiro, waiting for the class trial to officially begin.
"Let's begin with a basic explanation of the class trial! So, your votes will determine the results. If you can figure out "whodunnit" then only they will receive punishment. But if you pick the wrong one... Then I'll punish everyone *besides* the blackened, and the one that deceived everyone else will graduate!"
After Monokuma, Kyoko was the first to speak up.
"Let's discuss the murder weapon first. While it must be a sharp object, it can't be a knife. The wounds are too... thick for them to have come from a knife."
"The Monokuma file said that the wounds vary in size and deepness, but nothing about the weapon itself, that feels weird..." Makoto spoke.
"Almost as if the weapon might be very important to solving this case, right?" This time it was Byakuya who spoke, an amused expression on his face.
"That seems to be the case. The question is: what? What could have caused those wounds?"
"Maybe it is just a knife." Hiro said.
"Hiro, did you even listen to a word that was said or did your tiny brain already forgot it?" Byakuya said, his amusement now replaced with annoyance.
When Hiro opened his mouth to say something, Byakuya cut him off before he could speak.
"That was a rhetorical question, you fool. Like Kyoko said, the wounds are too thick to come from any regular knife you could find here."
"S-so if it isn't a knife, what could it be? When I checked the warehouse with Byakuya we couldn't really find anything..." Chihiro trailed off.
"Well, maybe they made it." Hina wondered.
"But why would they do that? It wouldn't make a lot of sense for the murderer to make their own weapon, not when there are already a lot of potential weapons just laying around..."
"That's right, Makoto. Maybe for now it would be best to establish where everybody was at the time of the murder. While people could be lying, it may help us. I for once, was asleep, until I got woken up by Chihiro and Byakuya. Speaking of them, were where the two of you?"
"We were in the library. While Chihiro was supposed to meet Mondo, he heard some books falling from the library and decided to check it out. That must have been around 2 am. We stayed there until 3 am. I won't tell you what we were doing, since that is none of your business, nor is it relevant to the case."
"I didn't expect you to." then her gaze shifted to Chihiro. "Could you tell me what the two were doing from your perspective."
"Well, I guess it started when I was supposed to meet Mondo at the locker rooms at 2 am. Then, like Byakuya said, I heard some books fall and checked it out, to make sure that they were okay. After that, we... talked a bit and we left the library at around 3 am. I don't think either of us heard any sounds from the outside, since the doors were closed. And after that we went to the locker room and saw Celestia... We went to you immediately after that." Chihiro recalled.
"Thank you. So, the two of you were awake when the murder happened, but it would have been impossible for one of you to be the murderer, since you were together in the library."
"Miss Kirigiri, it could be that one of them could be lying, after all Mr. Togami has been quite open about wanting to win... and someone like Miss Fujisaki could be easily swayed..."
"No, that's wrong! If Byakuya was the murderer, then the body discovery announcement wouldn't have gone off!"
"It still could have, Mr. Naegi. The rules just say that three students need to find the body, not that the murderer is excluded..."
"Stop this pointless arguing." Then, Byakuya looked at Monokuma. "Well, can the murderer activate the body discovery announcement?"
"And why should I tell you that? It will give a lot of information away, but I guess, as your benevolent headmaster, I could tell you that the body discovery announcement only activates when three or more innocent student find the body."
"See, I can't be the murderer, nor can Chihiro or Kyoko be for that matter, unless one of you saw the body before that... No? Great, let's continue. Kyoko."
"Right. So, since Byakuya and Chihiro can't be the culprit, for the reasons just explained, it leaves us with the two other people who were awake: Mondo and Toko. Mondo, if you could go first."
"Sure, I mean, you already know, but I guess most of the other don't. So, it was like 2:45am, maybe a few minutes before that. And I was walkin' back to my dorm, cuz I was supposed to meet with Chihiro and she wasn't there and it was kinda getting late. Then, at the dorms, I saw Toko. She was actin' a bit weird, like she was droolin' and her tongue was out and all. Said she was looking for Byakuya. I dunno what she did after, I just went in my dorm after that to try to sleep, until I heard the announcement and Byakuya went to get me."
"Alright. What about you, Toko?"
"W-well, it was r-really late and I c-couldn't really s-sleep. S-so I went t-to look for B-Byakuya when I c-came across him. I saw h-him go t-to somewhere a-and I just w-went back to my d-dorm."
"So, the both of you just went back your dorm after seeing each other?" Kyoko asked, to which both of them nodded.
"That means that one of you is lying or somebody else was awake..."
"Maybe it would help if we looked at the location of the murder and then go back to the weapon and the killer."
"That would be the girls locker room, right?" Taka asked.
"I don't think so. There were some splashes of blood near Togami's dorm."
"W-we also found a knife there." Chihiro piped up.
"I also saw that. It would make sense for the knife to come from Celestia, probably to attack her attacker. It would also make sense for the murder to have happened there and that after the murder, the attacker carried the body to the girls locker room. This is further evidenced by some small splashes of blood that me and Naegi saw coming from the dorms to the locker rooms. We can all agree on this, right?"
At this everybody gave a nod, some, like Chihiro instantly, while others, like Hiro nodded a bit more hesitantly.
"So, now we know where it took place, but what now..." Chihiro said, knowing that there wasn't a lot of evidence they could go off anymore.
After this question, nobody spoke. Chihiro could see that Kyoko was thinking extremely hard at to do next, since she has pretty much led this whole trial. It stayed like this for a few minutes until a voice from his left.
"My, it looks we are really not any closer to solving this puzzle, are we? We have talked for quite some time and we don't even know what was used to murder Celestia. Even our own private detective can't seem to figure it out. Luckily, I have something that might help..."
With that, Byakuya, with the biggest smirk that Chihiro has seen him yet, took something out of his jacket.
