There was a silence at first, with nobody reacting to Byakuya's statement. But eventually the silence ended and the accused spoke up.
"...I'd just like to say one thing. If you vote for me, and I die here, the mystery of this school will stay hidden forever," She explained, though Byakuya didn't believe any word of it. "Which is why...I can't let that happen!"
Is she really acting like she isn't the culprit?
"So, are you saying...you're not the culprit?" Byakuya asked sarcastically- he was quite sure of his choice by now.
Kyoko nodded, "Of course I'm not. I have no reason to kill anyone," She lied. "This is a trap the mastermind has laid for us."
As if...
Hina's eyes widened. "A trap...?"
Of course Hina wouldn't realize she's lying...
"Ahahahaha! We're this far into the game, and now you decide to blame me?" Monokuma asked, interrupting out of nowhere. "Stop wasting time! Stop wasting energy! You really think your little trick is gonna work!?"
Byakuya turned to the bear and glared at it. "Shut up, you!" He commanded.
The bear may have given him useful information in the past, but Byakuya felt no need to listen to its grating voice.
"You got it, boss! Shutting up now!" Monokuma said, though Byakuya paid him no mind.
"Anyway... Kyoko, you actually did have a reason to kill her," The heir said, turning to look at Kyoko.
Next to him, Chihiro gasped softly. "S-she did?"
"She thought Mukuro was the Ultimate Despair. In other words, the mastermind behind everything... So, she killed her to try and put a stop to all this. Isn't that right, Kyoko? But you made one catastrophic mistake-Mukuro wasn't the mastermind at all," Byakuya explained, a smirk beginning to form on his face.
He continued, "And as a result, we were forced into another trial, something I'm sure you weren't at all expecting."
"So, that was her motive?" Sakura mused, though she didn't sound too sure of it even though she should.
Luckily, Taka did seem to have some sense in him. "If she had a motive, and no alibi, well then...I think it's pretty clear Kyoko's gotta be the culprit!"
Looks like that alliance was useful for something.
Kyoko stayed silent for a moment- most likely thinking of another lie- before speaking. "I'm not the only one without an alibi. Chihiro's explanation is still insufficient."
"H-huh?" The small boy said and Byakuya refrained himself for speaking up for now.
Chihiro has to defend him himself... He wouldn't interfere unless necessary.
"The sprinklers didn't get the body wet, but that doesn't mean the murder happened when he said it did," Kyoko explained, and unfortunately, her explanation made sense. Or- at least- what she was getting at made sense.
"Wh-What are you-!?" Chihiro asked, shocked.
He had to know what she was getting at, right? Chihiro was smart enough.
"Because you see, there is a way the body could have avoided getting wet," Kyoko said, looking straight at Chihiro.
Byakuya pretended like he actually wanted to hear what Kyoko was going to say. "Interesting... I'm listening." In truth, he only found it slightly interesting. And he doubted that it would change his mind on who the culprit was.
