Bruce Yamada loves Vance Hopper. Bruce Yamada also loves the beach.

One thing he loves even more is Vance Hopper on the beach.
_

Vance was never one to purposely go to a beach purely for the fun of it. He never enjoyed swimming as much as anyone else. He didn't like his hair getting wet, it took him too much time to fix it afterwards. He also hated how crowded it usually was. Vance never liked to show off his body like that. Especially when there's numerous crowds of people who could see him.

So when Bruce Yamada asked him if he wanted to go to the beach with him, Vance was surprised to hear himself say yes.
_

Bruce had picked Vance up around 4 in the afternoon. The blonde had put on a white tank top as well as swim shorts. He didn't want to be too exposed. Bruce was only wearing a pair of light blue swim shorts, he had no shoes on. Neither boy did. Vance spotted a rather large picnic basket in the back of the car but didn't say anything about it. Bruce would probably point it out soon anyways.

When the two boys arrived at the beach, Bruce opened Vance's door for him. The blonde blushed, grunting out a half-annoyed 'I can open my own door y'know'. Bruce laughed, putting his hands up in surrender when Vance shot him a glare.

Bruce walked to the back of his car and opened the trunk. Inside were two fold-up chairs, two towels, and the picnic basket. Bruce called Vance over to help him carry the fold up chairs and the towels. The picnic basket was for later.

After their area had been set up, Bruce dragged Vance to the water. When Vance felt the water at his feet, his body froze in fear. Bruce looked at him, worry painting his entire face.

"What's wrong Vance?"
_

Vance had been playing in the water with his older brother. They were having fun, laughing and splashing water at each other. The sky above had started to grow dark, Vance didn't mind it much. He had turned to look at his brother, about to splash him again, when he noticed his brother was smiling. His eyes seemed almost darker than the night sky. Vance was scared. He went to take a step back, but his brother grabbed his wrist tightly. Vance was thrown under the water a second later. His brother pinned him down. Vance tried to scream but it only made it worse. Water was starting to fill his lungs. Vance knew he was starting to die. His eyes were growing heavy every passing minute and his body was growing weak.

If his father hadn't been there that day to save him, Vance would have died.
_

"Vance?"

Vance realized he had started to cry. He tried to wipe the tears away but it wouldn't work. The tears wouldn't stop. Bruce grabbed hold of Vance. Not by his wrist, but by putting his hands around his waist. Vance only cried more. He felt himself being dragged somewhere, but his eyes had grown heavy and ended up closing themselves. When he finally got them to open back up, he was in a pool chair. Bruce was right in front of him, a concerned expression on his face. Vance never told anyone about his fear of the water. He never went by water, unless it was to shower or bathe, therefore he never had the need to. But now, seeing Bruce in front of him with that look of concern, he knew he needed to tell someone.

So he did.

He had begun to cry again after he was done sharing his story. Bruce had immediately wrapped his arms around him, holding him protectively. Vance slowly calmed down. Bruce's scent, which was mint gum and mowed grass, entered the blonde's nose. Vance sighed. Bruce's hands slowly unraveled themselves from Vance.

"Do you want to leave?"

Vance immediately shook his head. Bruce had really wanted to this.

"No I'll be okay. Just don't leave me alone in the water please."

Vance laughed awkwardly after his statement. He would be okay but he was still a little scared. Bruce smiled that award-winning smile at him.

Yeah, Vance would be okay.
_

Bruce and Vance had been in the water for some time now. Vance thought it was peaceful. The waves lapped against the two boys, making their skin shiny from the water. The sky above was a deep shade of orange, with some light blue still showing in some areas. It wasn't fully sunset yet, but it was still beautiful.

Bruce looked over to Vance. His blonde hair was soaked with ocean water, falling lightly on his shoulders. His face and eyes glimmered and sparkled. He wore a small smile on his face. Bruce laughed when he looked down, seeing the white shirt Vance wore was now soaked and floating softly in the water below. Vance looked down as well, laughing at the same thing.

Then the two boys looked at each other.

Vance's heart got caught in his throat. Bruce's hair was stuck to his face, water shining off it. His tan skin sparkled in the dark sunlight. Vance thought it made the boy look even more handsome than he already was.

They smiled at each other.

"Are you hungry? We can go to the car and eat."

Vance's smile grew. He nodded his head, his stomach growling softly. Bruce laughed, grabbing Vance's hand and walking him back to their chairs. Once they had grabbed everything, they went to Bruce's car and put the belongings in the trunk. The picnic basket was then grabbed.

"Let's sit on the roof of the car."

Vance didn't even have to be told. He climbed to the top with ease, stretching out a hand for Bruce afterwards. Bruce accepted gratefully, putting the basket up first before climbing up as well.

The sky was now covered in stars and constellations. Vance and Bruce ate quietly. It turned out Bruce had packed sandwiches, sodas, and two slices of strawberry cheesecake. Vance's favorite cake. The blonde smiled when he saw it. He smiled even bigger when he found out Bruce had made it from scratch. It was amazing.

Bruce gazed up at the stars, then at Vance. His face was illuminated with the light of the stars. His eyes twinkled softly. His hair was still wet, sticking to his neck and face gently. The two had finished eating by now. Bruce extended a hand, running it through Vance's wet hair when it reached it. Vance looked at Bruce and smiled. Bruce's heart hammered against his chest in sporadic patterns.

"Can I kiss you Vance?"

Vance was taken aback for a split second. But that went away when he looked into Bruce's eyes.

He looked beautiful.

Vance nodded softly in response to Bruce's question. Bruce smiled, leaning in. Vance met him in the middle.

The two boys kissed underneath the night sky. The stars danced above as if they were celebrating the interaction between the two boys.

Vance knew then that he was in love with Bruce Yamada.
Bruce knew then that he was in love with Vance Hopper.

Going to the beach would become their special thing. Bruce absolutely loved it.

He loved Vance Hopper on the beach.
