"It's so sweet, knowing that you love me
Though we don't need to say it to each other, sweet
Knowing that I love you, and running my fingers through your hair
It's so sweet"

the 'light after the dark' chapter

Vance loved a lot of things about Bruce Yamada. He loved his picture-perfect smile. He loved his dark-brown eyes, the way they'd sparkle when he'd become excited or happy. He loved his personality the most. The two boys were polar opposites but definitely brought the whole 'opposites attract' thing to life.

Vance also loved that Bruce Yamada was his. He loved that Bruce loved him, that he was in love with him. Vance loved everything about the boy.

_

Bruce, like almost everyone else he knew, used to be scared of Vance. He'd never show it, never wanting to be portrayed as weak in front of the boy, so he didn't think Vance ever found out about it. Bruce, even while scared of the other boy, always had a big admiration for Vance. He's always loved his blue eyes, the way that they'd squint slightly when the boy was concentrated or crinkle softly when he was happy or excited. He's also always loved Vance's thick blonde hair. He'd always find himself playing with it, or sometimes fixing it after it would become tangled from a fight the boy would get himself involved in. Bruce slowly also came to love the blonde's personality. Vance had an inner, much softer, layer that was under the hard exterior he usually wore and showed off to everyone else. Bruce found that Vance loves to play guitar. He loves to paint, listen to the blues occasionally, and sit in the rain. He also loves to spend quality time with those close to him. Bruce also found that Vance absolutely loves and adores his mother. He'd do anything for the woman and, of course, vice versa. Vance also had an enormous soft spot for Bruce, which the boy absolutely adored and cherished. He knew Vance would do anything he could for him, and Bruce made sure that that was mutual between them.

Vance and Bruce love date nights. Whether it's staying inside at one of their houses, cuddling on their beds and watching cheesy black and white romantic movies, or going out and eating at a restaurant or watching a movie at the drive-in, the two boys loved date nights. The nights would usually end in a sleepover, Bruce stroking a loving hand through Vance's hair to get the blonde to sleep peacefully. Vance, although he'd never admit it to anyone besides Bruce, loves to be little spoon. He never had that cuddly kind of affection from a parent when he was younger. Now that he does, he doesn't intend on letting it go to waste.

_

On Bruce and Vance's one year anniversary, Vance took them both to get matching promise rings. It was a surprise for Bruce. He ended up loving it of course. Neither boy has ever taken their ring off.

Their promise rings also later became their marriage rings.

_

Before the two boys had started dating, Bruce would vent about Vance to Finn. He'd go on and on about how beautiful the boy looked and how much he was suffering because he didn't think Vance would like him back.

One day Finn had had enough. It had been several months of Bruce talking about the blonde and Finn couldn't take it anymore. He had texted Robin, who had been going through the same thing with Vance, and told him they needed to get the two boys together asap. Robin didn't even hesitate in accepting Finn's plan.
_

Bruce was the one who asked. Vance had been staring at him, face beet-red, for fifteen minutes after Finn and Robin exposed the two to each other. Bruce was also nervous. He was also beet-red. But he needed to say something so the silence wouldn't be so thick around them. It had went something like this.

Vance was staring at Bruce. Actually, he seemed to be staring through Bruce. His eyes had a glassy look to them, looking to no specific place or area. Bruce's fingers tapped anxiously on his thighs, a pattern of 4 taps for each finger. When he lost count of the taps, he chose to speak to the other boy in the room.

"Vance?"

The blonde didn't budge. He didn't even seem to be aware that Bruce had said his name.

"Vance."

Bruce's tone had deepened this time. Vance's head shifted towards him. His eyes no longer had that glassy look to them. He was aware of his surroundings.

"What?"

Vance hadn't said it in a mean or harsh way. He had asked it softly, which wasn't something unnatural when he was around the other boy.

"Do you want to be my boyfriend?"

Bruce's voice had cracked when he said the last word. It made Vance laugh.

"Yeah Bruce. I'd love to."
_

Bruce's little sister Amy, as well as his mother and father, absolutely adore Vance. They've heard the things people have said about the blonde boy, but they were never the type of people to judge. Especially without deeper knowledge of the person or subject that was being talked about.

When Bruce had brought Vance over to announce that they were now dating, his mother was ecstatic. His father had shaken hands with Vance tightly, whispering in his ear that he definitely had his blessing before he left that night. Amy, Bruce's little sister, had hugged the oxygen out of the blonde and gave him a kiss on the forehead. She later told Vance that she was glad he was her official brother now.

Vance and Bruce are fond of every single memory they have made and are going to make in the future. These memories are just rather special to the two. During their wedding ceremony, Vance had brought out a rather thick black leather journal. It looked a little worn-out. Bruce had been curious at to what it resembled, asking Vance a quick 'what's that for?' when he had returned to his side. When everyone had crowded around the two after seeing Vance had returned with the book, the blonde finally opened the journal. Inside were entries upon entries of each special moment the two boys had shared together. Each treasured memory. Even the sad ones. Bruce had cried, as did most of the wedding guests.

Their memories in the journal would be passed on to their children, which they had surrogated, who would be named Leonardo and Caitlyn.
_

The two boys would die of old age and be buried directly next to each other. Their headstones would read 'forever together, never apart' which was true from the day they met and for the rest of eternity.

They would spend their lives in the 'white light' together, holding hands tightly with smiles on their faces as they watched their children, and grandchildren, grow up and start their own adult lives.
