He hadn't planned on running away. Not like he had anyway.
His bag felt heavy pressed into his back, rain soaking into the protective fabric of it slowly. His clothes were already soaked, darker than the progressing night sky.
He really should've came up with a plan.
His body felt sore, somewhat half-asleep though he felt wide awake. His eyesight was blurry, lights from passing cars making him lightheaded. His hair had begun to fall in front of his face, inching closer to his eyes every time he let out a bigger-than-normal breath.
He should call someone. A friend maybe.
His phone sat tucked in the pocket of his jeans, most likely just as battered with rain as the rest of him. His hand slipped down to it, shaking softly as he pulled it from its place.
It was in an okay condition, splashes of rain spewed on only the protective case.
Putting the phone to his ear, he could hear what sounded like the second ring of a phone call. The minuscule light from the person's contact photo shined against his face, his eyes squinting consequently.
"Hello?"
The voice was tired, their words catching the faint sound of a yawn.
"I ran away. It was stupid and I didn't think shit through but, I could really use your help right now."
It sounded as if the person on the other end of the call sat up, a squeak of leather following close behind. He could hear faint footsteps echoing, the sound of someone grabbing something.
"Send me your location idiot. I'll be there in a minute."
There was a click, the end of the phone call.
He didn't feel as heavy anymore. He could feel his lips curve into a smile, his hands no longer shaking as they shoved his phone back into his pocket.
Pushing his hair out of the way, he felt as if he could breathe more as well.
The rain had begun to clear, allowing deep blends of orange and yellow to appear in the sky above. Stars splattered over color, making the entire thing look like a piece of art.
He sat himself on the curb of the sidewalk he had been standing on, still smiling as he put his chin atop his knuckles in wait.
A few moments later, the screech of tires was heard down the road. A middle finger came next, shown through the driver's side window.
"Watch where you're driving young man!"
"Don't stand in the middle of the fucking street then, asshole!"
The car stopped when it approached the sidewalk, its tires practically screaming as the brakes were hit.
"Get in the car. You're really stupid sometimes, you know that?"
Bruce allowed himself to grin as he stood up, adjusting the straps of his backpack as he nodded his head. "You came to pick me up though. Guess that makes us both stupid." Vance rolled his eyes, laughing despite himself. "Just get in."
Bruce laughed as well before climbing into the passenger seat of the car, tucking his bag close to his chest as he shut the car door. Vance turned his head to him, smiling softly.
"Where to?"
Bruce turned to him as well, smiling as he shrugged.
"Anywhere, as long as you're staying with me."
Vance nodded his head, turning his head back to the road.
"We're so going to Vegas."
