Vance put his hands in his hair, tightly grabbing it in fistfuls. Warm tears pooled in his eyes, making them burn viciously. He pulled his knees up to his chest, pushing his head far into them to drone out his surroundings. The world seemed to grow quiet, even if for a mere second. Vance sniffled, letting a couple of teardrops make way down his face and towards his trembling lips. He flinched as he heard his father's voice, loud and strong. He was yelling at his mother, most likely over the low amount of money they had. Vance tucked his head farther into his knees, silently counting the time it took for his father to calm down.

Since that day, Vance has promised himself to never wound up like his father. He'd let himself die before he'd become as terrible of a man as his father. He vows never to even come as near as violent as the other, having the look of his mother's frightened face engraved into his mind.

Vance walked alongside his boyfriend, Bruce Yamada. The two were holding hands, the warm summer air kissing their skin softly. Bruce hummed a tune, hair swaying slightly due to the small gusts of wind. Vance smiled at him, squeezing his hand gently. The two made their way into the Grab N' Go, heading straight for the blonde's prized pinball machine.  Bruce watched his boyfriend excitedly, waiting for the small ball in the machine to drop, signaling that the game was now starting. Vance intently stared at the small item, a childish grin on his face.

Behind the two boys, a group of teenagers were playfully shoving each other. One of them shoving someone in the group a little too hard, sending them flying straight into the machine that Vance had his hands on.

Bruce watched with wide eyes as a boy flew into the pinball machine, looking at his boyfriend with nervous eyes. Vance slammed his hands down on the exterior glass, eyes darting to the source of interruption.

"You idiot! You messed me up!"

The other boy cowered backwards, averting his gaze from the blonde. Vance grabbed him by the shirt, roughly throwing him on the ground and kneeling over him. The boy on the floor received blow after blow to his face, deeming him almost unconscious. Vance moved away before he killed the boy, wiping his dirtied hands on his white t-shirt. He stood upright, moving towards his boyfriend who stood against the wall.

"Let's go Bruce, I think that's enough pinball for right now."

His boyfriend stepped back, shaking ever so slightly as the blonde tried to reach a hand out to him. Vance cocked his head to the side, frowning as he saw his boyfriend's eyes fill with tears. "What's wrong?" Bruce looked from the boy on the floor, to his boyfriend, then back at the other boy. Vance looked down as well, only then hearing the approaching sirens from outside of the small store.

He had promised himself not to become like his father, yet here he was.
