THE ESSENCE 2
To be honest, he didn't mind this kind of attitude toward a person because he got bored easily. After all, these two men who served him were still young, and he was the type of person who didn't place much emphasis on royal etiquette; simply being comfortable and not being provoked was enough for him; just don't touch his personal space, and everything would be fine.
Wei took the tiny porcelain cup that now held warm tea, brought it closer to his lips, and drank it before responding to the young man beside him with a considerate smile.
"Yes, but this banquet was not just for me; it was also for all of you,"
"For us?" Koko, perplexed, inquires.
He had no idea that this banquet was for them as well; all he had heard was about those gossiping people, that this banquet was prepared by the temporary grandmaster of the cloud clan, and that this banquet was to celebrate their second prince's belated twenty birthday.
But I guess he hadn't heard everything because he immediately left since it was time for him and his elder brother Mingming to prepare to serve their second prince. So the banquet is for all of us?
Seeing Koko confused and spaced-out expression, this give Wei an impression that these this young men didn't fully understand what the banquet was for. But, according to brother Xichen, he has already informed our people about the banquet...
So this means, he only tells them the date and not the reason behind it, right that explains it. Aish... What am I doing with those last two days?
I completely forgot about my responsibility to inform them of the reason for the banquet, but it was also brother Xichen's fault for he told me he had already informed them, but then again... Let's just stop thinking about it. Hays, it's pointless to dwell on what has already occurred; it will only waste your time.
The Yao clan's second prince couldn't help but face palm himself inside his thoughts and say.
"That's right, so have you two already decided what to wear to the banquet today?"
Mingming, who was busy preparing and placing the hanfu that their second prince would be wearing later, stopped what he was doing to look at his twin brother, who was also looking at him with an awkward expression.
The two young men, both fifteen years old, exchange identical expressions before one of them, who is taller and has more feminine features, decides to speak up and respond.
"Um, Prince Wei, we're not going,"
"Huh? Why?" he asks, prompting the two young sibling eyes to lock on him, hesitant and nervous to explain their reasoning.
But Koko, who stands five feet one inches tall and has average features, mustered the courage to respond to their second prince's questions.
"We... were just servants, and I don't think we need to... I mean, we don't think we deserve to experience such an extravagant event, Prince Wei, and we also don't have appropriate attire for such an event, so..."
Hearing the young men's explanation, Wei came to understand their reasoning, prompting him to think that it's kind of stupid for them to think like that, but he understands, knowing that this young sibling hadn't experienced such a thing before and only learned that since they're born as a servant, they must stay that way and won't think about other things.
Their parents must have stopped them from thinking such delectable thoughts. It's a good thing and a good discipline, but don't we all have the freedom to dream and experience such fleeting or rare things? We all deserve it, you know?
Besides, this banquet is really for all of them, not just for him. It's such a waste for them not to attend the event, and he believes the two young men in his room truly deserve it. After all, he could never make up for what they had lost because of him. He's convinced that this young man blames him for their parents' deaths and that they're just hiding it from him. He knows too well, because his gut tells him so.
On the day he went to see their remaining people for the first time, Jui told him everything that had happened, as well as information about all servants who had lost a family, and these two young men were among those who had lost a parent.
Wei couldn't help but feel sour and deep guilt inside his heart, which made his mood went completely blue. Hays...
"The reasons you two have inside your minds are unessential," he said, concealing the emotion he felt deep inside as he smiled considerately and continued explaining, fully drawing all of the two siblings' attention through him.
"The essence of this banquet is for us all Yao people to be welcomed fully by all cloud people, not to be shown as a price or betroth as reward or to impress anyone. You all wear what you all have and go there enjoy the night, that's all that matters. Besides, why wear such a wonderful cloth, when you only have this kind of event for one day? Such a waste, don't you think?"
Wei stated his points clearly, which shocked and amazed the two young men, who also believe his words are completely right. Their prince had taught them something good and reasonable today. As expected, Prince Wei is a truly amazing and humble individual.
Koko and Mingming agreed in unison as they now look at each other again, smiling and confident, their negative thoughts about themselves gradually fading, and Emperor Fen's second sons can sense it, as he saw their eyes finally show joy and excitement. He was glad. Finally, his wonderful mood began to return to him.
"Just enjoy, don't think about whether you were born with a high rank or not. This event is free for all, so don't think too much and join the event later okay?" He lastly expresses through the twin siblings with a wink and cheeky smile, making Koko and Mingming blush and sharply nod.
They are overjoyed and grateful to have such a considerate prince as Prince Wei in their midst. They are extremely fortunate.
To be continued.
