THE BIRTH OF WHITE RAVEN
Lan Zhan continues on his path alongside Wei, who is now walking alongside him, remaining obedient and having long stopped protesting, but still holds a grudge against him as he was upset upon learning that his childhood friend might lie to him about his family and was also afraid that Lan Zhan might do something to him that the other would later regret.
Nonetheless, he trusts him and chose to remain silent, despite his suspicions and fear of what the other might do to him later.
He's stuck in the middle, but he chooses to believe his idiot childhood friend.
This deep and confused solemnity lasts until a panicked and concerned female voice reaches out in front of them.
"Wanji!"
Emperor Fen's second son and Master Woo's grandson looked ahead and saw Princess Ding with her trusted servant named May.
This made the Yao clan's second prince sigh in relief, but only for a moment. The first crisis had ended, but another had begun; how long would I have to face such injustice in this world?
Wei clenched his teeth in annoyance as Lan Zhan came to a halt beside him, still clutching his arm tightly in his.
Emperor Fen's second son gave him a sidelong glance before turning away, grunting in nuisance and remaining still beside his childhood friend, ignoring the two visitors as he didn't want to acknowledge them in the meantime.
"Brother Hanguang-Jun, your wife is already here, you don't have to worry about me, I won't do what I just said earlier, so let my arm go now," Wei said quietly, but the other only tightened his grip on his arm.
"Shut up, and stay still beside me," Lan Zhan replied, his voice deep and full of hidden unsatisfied anger, his eyes now staring straight through his wife, who had already arrived in front of them and spotted their hand connected, but this woman just turned a blind eye to it and instead went closer to him, holding his face with her both hands and asking in worry.
"Wanji, are you okay? Are you hurt in any way?"
Hearing such phony concern caused Wei to burst out laughing.
"Pft! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Please forgive me, hahaha. Princes Ding, we meet again," Wei said, smiling at her, while his gaze traveled to May, who was now giving him an icy stare and flared expression, but he was unaffected by it, instead, he smiled at her as well.
"Greetings, Prince Wei. Forgive me, I didn't see you there as my concern for my husband had blinded me," Princess Ding replied, looking innocent and sincere, but Wei could see through her that she was trembling, and did she not notice that she was gripping the fabric of her hanfu with her hand right now?
Is she possibly jealous? But why would she be jealous? I'm a man... unless she knows anything about me...
Interesting...
It turns out that this sickly princess isn't so simple after all.
Emperor Fens's second son was somehow distracted by this discovery and had turned his full attention to it, which led him to think of something nefarious to do to prove his theory.
The second prince of the Yao clan gave Princess Ding a gentle smile, reaching his right hand to hold Lan Zhan's right arm and leaning closer as if clinging intimately to his childhood friend.
"I accept your apology, Princess Ding, and I completely understand your concern for my friend here," he said, pretending to be unaware of his actions while smiling warmly, eyes sneakily peering into Lan Zhan's wife's trembling hands while her expression outside remained calm and collected.
Intriguing...
Wei kept his smile on, amused by his childhood friend's wife's reaction, while Wanji, who had been caught off guard by his intimate gesture, just looked at him, keeping a straight face, unbothered by Emperor Fen's son's misbehavior, before returning his attention to his wife, who still wore a worried look in her eyes.
"What are you doing here?" he asks directly to Princess Ding, drawing everyone's attention to him.
"What brought you here?" He went on.
"I restrain everyone from entering this peak how'd you come here with your servant? No one knew I was here except my elder brother and all of our junior disciples, whom I strictly instructed not to tell anyone," Lan Zhan added, making Wei's ears perk up with suspicions towards Princess Ding, as he now casts simple but observant eyes on the two visitors in front of them.
"Yes, I heard that princess Ding is sick and was not gifted to learn any martial arts or cultivation; this mountain is stiff and difficult to walk on; only by using martial arts can one successfully enter this place; so how come princess Ding was able to enter this place with no sign of difficulties?" Wei asked, earning a frown and an irritated look from Prince Ding's servant.
May was about to protest but Princess Ding stopped her by touching her left shoulder and keeping her gaze fixed on Emperor Fen's second son with an easy expression and thin smile.
She was about to respond when someone very familiar to them interrupted their conversation.
"I brought them here,"
They all look ahead and are surprised to see Lan Xichen approaching them, along with Jingyi and Wen Ning, who are both wearing uncomfortable and uneasy expressions as they try not to look at Wei's location.
Seeing the person who had sparked these suspicions he had towards his childhood friend and who had hidden his family from him this entire time, the second prince of the Yao clan's anger and feeling of betrayal resurfaced, like a massive storm hurriedly surging inside him, making him frown and shiver from feeling a strong urge to incite violence.
This causes him to make rash decisions and took a step toward Xichen, sneering within his pacing breath, but was once again tightly restrained by Lan Zhan's hand, who looks at him with a calm expression and eyes that seem to speak to him, telling him to stay still and let him handle everything.
Wei felt unbelievable as a result of this and wanted to retort, but he nodded, obeying what his childhood friend wanted him to do, staying still beside him while turning his head away from everyone and staying quiet beside Master Woo's second grandson, both hands tightly clenched as they trembled from restraint fury.
"Brother," Lan Zhan greets his elder brother, who is now only five steps away from where they were standing.
Xichen smiled as he accepted his younger brother's greetings, his gaze shifting to Emperor Fen's second son, who had just remained motionless beside his younger brother, pretending not to notice their presence.
"Prince Wei, I'm relieved to see you're well," Lan Xichen said thoughtfully, but he only received a forced smile from the Yao clan's second prince as this sarcastically replied to him.
"As I am to you, brother Xichen; you must have gotten a good night's sleep every night and haven't had any nightmares,"
