THE CHESS NEST

Wei wipes the tears from his eyes with his right hand, convincing himself not to think too deeply about the situation for the time being and to just keep running to safety.

But his mind refuses to cooperate, as his tears continue to fall and his heart continues to beat in terror.

I don't get it. What was going on right now? Why did it suddenly change from peaceful to this? Those clans I vehemently despise...

Emperor Fen's second son theoretically speculated, sneering angrily, then came to a halt in the middle of his path, his face filled with shock and deep concern as he suddenly recalls all of the Yao people who remain inside the HenDu residence.

Wei's body was immediately enveloped in cold air, sending shivers of disbelief, desperation, and panic. As a result, his eyes had dried up and he no longer cried. He couldn't believe he had forgotten all of their remaining people and was only thinking about himself.

I have to go back! I have to save them!

He turned around and prepared to go to HenDu's residence, but Yoyo was already in his path, flapping its wings and staring him down with piercing eyes that could see through his soul.

The second prince of the Yao clan was taken aback; he couldn't believe a bird could have such a keen understanding, but this was no ordinary bird.

Emperor Fen's second son looked into Yoyo's steel eyes, trying to figure out what it wanted when out of nowhere, he felt an unknown and strange strong surge of emotion hugging him.

It caught him off guard, and he felt odd as if something was drawing his entire thoughts and emotions away from thinking about other people.

What's going on? Why am I suddenly losing a strong desire to return to HenDu residence to save our people, what is it...?

Wei was disturbed, and he now cast a puzzled look at the spiritual bird that was given to him as a gift.

Yoyo kept flapping its wings, as if he didn't care about anything other than getting the person in front of him to safety, persistently blocking the way to HenDu residence, almost like telling his master to continue on their previous path and not stop.

But what about the rest of their people? What about those kids, those innocent kids...

"Aww!" Yoyo cried, violently flapping his wings in front of his new master as if he had just heard Wei's thoughts.

The second prince of the Yao clan was even more surprised, then realized something that made him chuckle, his face heavy as if he were carrying a large rock on both shoulders that he would never be able to lift no matter how many people helped him.

"So it turns out that this strong emotion is coming from you... You want me to think only of myself and abandon them?" he murmured between breaths.

How could I forget, accepting and wearing this bracelet could only mean I accepted this spirit bird as my other self, but...

"I will not abandon them; they're our people..." His tone became solemn.

Despite his master's words, Yoyo remained persistent and cold, causing the second prince of the Yao clan to bite his lower lip and feel helpless.

Wei's gaze had now shifted to the floor, his heart pounding with heaviness, deeply resenting himself.

"Right... I almost forgot, I don't have the strength to use to save them, how could I... Hahaha," Wei laughed almost psychotically, internally hating and insulting himself for being so useless, when suddenly a sound of a sharp object rang behind him, causing him to turn around only to see a fully-bodied corpse roaring like a wild beast while running to get to him, holding a sword aimed straight at him to slash.
