"Hi, is this your bow? Sorry, it was unlocked and I really love archery. I haven't even seen my bow since I got here and I ran out of books to read and went looking for more, I read a lot, especially history books. And this was the only unlocked door." I ramble, "Oh, I'm Beth by the way."
"Clint." We shake hands and he continues," I think Steve has some books that may interest you. Right this way." He leads me down the hall.
"You aren't upset?"
"No, glad someone else appreciates archery too. Here we are, Steve's library. The door code is 1941, feel free to come back any time. I have to leave, will you be able to find your way back to your room?"
"Yeah." He leaves and I wander the shelves, picking a handful of books to read. I spot a well worn leather arm chair sitting off to the side in a little alcove with a small side table and lamp. I sit down and begin reading. I have been reading for an hour or so, nearing the end of the first book when I hear the door open. I glance up and go back to reading, foot steps get closer. I instinctively reach for my dagger only to remember it was confiscated. Someone starts humming the army song, I start singing along quietly,
" First to fight for the right,
And to build the Nation's might,
And The Army Goes Rolling Along.
Proud of all we have done,
Fighting till the battle's won,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along."
The person humming pauses, and then I hear his footsteps approaching. A tall blond man with wide muscular shoulders rounds the corner of the bookshelf holding a patriotic shield. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
"My name is Beth and I am reading, what else do you do in libraries? Sneak up on unsuspecting reader with shields and such? I assure you I am unarmed, and may I ask who you are?"
"Steve Rogers," he tuck his shield behind his back and extends his hand politely,"Pleasure to meet you, Beth."
I shake his hand,I know he is Captain America, I saw the news when they found him. That happened before I left, "You too, Captain Rogers."
"Call me Steve."
"Alright, Steve, does this library have newspapers from the past two and a half years?"
"No, why?"
"I don't know if you have the security clearance for that."
"I am in charge here, I have the clearance."
" Okay. "
