The avengers wound up sitting at the kitchen table while my mom baked cookies with Eliza and I assisting her. Peter was making some sort of pie filling under Mom's direction. She puts Steve to work kneading bread dough. Mom sets the sugar cookie dough on the table and pulls some cookie cutters out and lets everyone cut cookies. Eliza and I are continually putting cookie sheets in and out of the oven.
The first batch of cookies is cool enough to start eating so I pour glasses of milk for everyone. Wanda shows Thor how to dip cookies in milk. Everyone is laughing and having a good time. Everyone is too full for lunch so we decide to just have an early dinner, Eventually we all separate and go back to own individual tasks. Before Mom leaves I pull her aside and discuss the plan for this evening, the reason for all the candy; Movie Night. A fun family tradition, once a week we all gather and watch a movie together and usually play a board game or two before hand, eat pizza for dinner, make popcorn the old fashioned way, etc.Mom promises to return this evening and bring some games and a couple movies to pick from. With that taken care of and the promise of her return we hug and then she leaves to return to her duties as a SHIELD agent. I head to my room and continue unpacking. I find a couple gallons of royal blue (Ravenclaw blue) paint in one of the boxes, I forgot I was going to paint my room at grandma and grandpa's, I don't think anyone will mind...
I emerge from my room hours later, my clothing and skin covered in random paint splatters. At least I'm not painting my room red, that would be unfortunate. I slip downstairs and put the frozen pizzas in the oven. Wanda wanders in and looks at me, "I think you got a little something on your-, maybe you should go look in a mirror."
"It can't be that bad, I can still see some skin on my hands."
"I didn't know you were a Smurf." Stark jokes entering the kitchen in half of an iron man suit.
"I didn't know you were a cyborg." I cackle.
"It's a suit!" Well that put him on the defensive.
"It's just a bit of paint."
"Hate to see what a lot of paint looks like then."
"What's a lot of paint?" Steve wonders as he walks in and then he sees me. "Oh."
"It's just a little bit of paint. Why does everyone keep overreacting?"
"You may want to look in a mirror." Loki suggests as he saunters in grinning maniacally.
"Oh come on it can't be that bad!" I shout and stalk to bathroom scowling. Okay nevermind it is a little bit bad. I have paint all the up to my knees and my elbows with large splotches on my clothes and face and hair and well everywhere really. I head back.
"It's not that bad, not nearly as bad as that time I-" I pause regreting bringing that up.
"That time you what?" Loki prods.
"The time I set a bucket of paint on my desk and then got down to look for the paintbrush I dropped and hit my head on the desk tipping the can of paint over and completely drenching me. I was purple for nearly a week before it all came off."
Loki and Stark are laughing hard and Steve is trying very hard not to laugh.
"Go ahead and laugh. It was pretty funny." I grudgingly admit. I think I'm going to go shower now.
.........................................................................................................................................................
After I get of the shower I go to open the door to my room but pause when I hear voices.
"You know why I don't approve of Beth and now Eliza and Peter, they're all so young." Natasha says coolly
"I know but they are what this team needs. They remember why we fight, its their youth that helps them to remember normal life, joy, love, family. Nat-"
I open the door and try to slip out unseen. Nat looks at me wistfully, "I understand why. But I don't like it."
I run and run until I slam into someone knocking the wind out of me and causing me to fall on my butt.
"Are you alright Lady Beth?" Thor asks offering a hand.
"Just Beth. And yes I am." I dust myself off as I get up, "Maybe I should just fly, less people to run into, huh?"
"Er, mayhap?"
"Excellent," My hummingbird wings are best suited to the narrow halls being considerably smaller than any of the others so I take off and zoom down the halls at high speeds. I fly over stark's head laughing.
"We have a room for that!" He shouts.
"I know but this is way more fun!" I start turning in spirals.
"Show off." Sam mutters. I land, "Do you want me to help make improvements on your wings? Cause I have a few ideas on how to improve them. Make them more realistic and functional."
"Thanks, I appreciate the offer but I don't think you have time what with the new training regimen that Steve has planned out."
"Oh."
We part ways and I continue my flight around the tower. That cat made another appearance frightening me and chasing me down the hall it keeps up with me fairly well since the narrow hallway and the possibility of running into someone limit my speeds. At long last I reach the stairwell and try to shut the door before the cat, crud it slipped in. The stairs look like any other commercial building kind of stairs, lining two walls with landings in between. I perch on the railing and look down inbetween the stairs. This really isn't a good idea but it looks possible. Switching to my peregrine falcon wings and then I'm jumping feet first off the railing into that gap between the stairs, not quite in free fall, when I near the bottom I flare my wings out slightly to slow my descent and then touch down gently. It wisely decided to stay put but has stuck it's head out from between the railing and is glaring down at me, it's elusive prey, hissing madly.
"Ha ha! I've bested you once again foul beast!" I shout happily.
"What are you doing?" Dr. Banner queries. Of course as soon as he walks in the cat stops hissing and turns tail and runs.
"Hmm? Oh doing battle with that cat. The little beast chased me and then I escaped by jumping down here and now it tries to make look like a lunatic by disappearing before anyone else can see it's violent tendencies. What are you doing Dr. Banner?"
"Going upstairs."
"Okay. Bye now." I dash away and head back to the kitchen to check on the pizzas. Steve, Loki, Stark, and Wanda are all still sitting around the table eating more cookies. Loki is the first to notice my arrival, glancing at my now only faintly blue arms. "Well down Beth. I see you are only a pale blue now."
"Yep, it should fade soon I think. Also that cat chased me again."
"Maybe if you would stop running it wouldn't chase you."
"Don't be silly Loki, I didn't run I flew." I burst out giggling laughing at my own joke."No? Okay. Um so dinner will be ready soon and then it will be time. Now scram so I get stared on the popcorn. Oops, well I guess y'all can stay as long as you promise not to eat the popcorn."
