I open my eyes to see the side of a sock clad foot. It would appear that everyone fell asleep on the floor in some big puppy pile or slumber party sort of set up. I must have moved in my sleep because somehow I wound up curled up and my body tucked under the backs of his knees using him like a blanket. I sit up, surprisingly I am among the first to wake, Natasha is drinking coffee at the bar and raises her glass to me when she see me. I gingerly try to get up without waking Bucky, fail, one eye opens like some mythological dragon. I wave and mouth, "Hi."
Bucky rolls his eyes and lifts his feet so I can move. Once I am up he stands and we join Natasha and Steve over by the bar. Bucky grabs a mug and pours himself some coffee. I smile and quietly say, "Good morning everyone."
"Morning, Buck." Natasha smiles. Steve just nods in acknowledgement and takes a bit of his pink frosted donut with rainbow sprinkles. I grab a chocolate cake donut from the box and take a seat on one of the stools. I carefully keep my face stern and emotionless as I look at Nat, "Steve."
"Yes?" She answers.
I say nothing and start eating my donut. Bucky catches on and tries to pick a donut, I grab his abandoned coffee, if I am to be Bucky then I shall be Bucky. I grimace as I swallow the bitter drink. I turn and poke the real Bucky, "Beth. Is that you?"
"Huh?"
"Beth?"
"Good morning Uncle Bucky!" He smiles as he catches on, "What's your favorite donut?"
I hold up my donut.
"Me too!" Am I really that cheerful?
"I had this great idea," Nat as Steve says, "We could pull a prank on Tony and pretend we all switched bodies."
"That sounds like fun." Bucky answers as me, "What do you think Bucky?"
I shrug and say quietly, "Okay."
"Yay!" Bucky cheers, "This is going to be awesome! I want to be Steve, or maybe Clint, or Nat or Sam! That would be cool! I could use my real wings and he can be me and use his wings!"
"Or we could just draw names out of a hat." Steve as Natasha says contemplatively.
"I'll go find a hat." Bucky offers before he runs off. I drink the rest of my coffee and wait for him to return. He comes running back and crashes into Steve, "Sorry Nat, I found a hat! See, look!"
He waves a top hat about madly, "Isn't it so cool?"
I crack a slight grin. Steve(Nat) writes everyone's names on slips of paper and offers the hat to Nat (Steve), "Your turn Steve."
"Thor."
Bucky pretending to me reaches into the hat next, "Steve."
Steve pulls out a name, "Tony."
The AI, Friday, speaks, "Captain Rogers, an urgent message has arrived for the Avengers. It's from the UN."
"Thank you Friday." Steve says as a file opens on a computer screen built into the wall. The title says the Sokovia Accords.
"What does that mean?" I ask.
"Sokovia was my home." Wanda says from behind me.
"Oh."
"Friday, please wake the other Avengers." Steve requests. Loud music blares and everyone jumps.
"Well if that didn't wake them I don't know what will." I try to crack a joke. Everyone shuffles over in various states of awakeness. Banner namely is still half asleep whereas Loki may as well have had a pot of coffee for all his alertness.
Tony yawns, "Friday, a summary please."
"The Avengers and all powered individuals will be under UN jurisdiction and missions will be determined and ran by a UN council. Your signatures are requested."
"No." Steve says, "I can't sign this."
The debate rages, Nat and Tony in favor of signing, Steve and Sam against. At least those are the biggest, most persuasive people for each side. I'm kind of out of it, I don't like the accords but, well, some form of oversight might keep heroes from going bad. I stand up and get everyone's attention, "I think, maybe, I just might have a solution."
