As we load the groceries into the trunks of the cars, Clint and I discus our favorite Kansas adventures, "My favorite was the bison herd out by the penitentiary, the cosmosphere was cool but the bison are my favorite."
"Really mine too."
"Bison? There are still Bison in Kansas?" Steve asks, Clint and I stare at him in shock.
"We have to take you to see the bison."
"We can make a detour on the way back to base. Nat and Banner have all of the perishable items. Come on Steve it will be fun, and help modernize you since everyone in Leavenworth has seen the bison herd at least once."
"These bison are majestic creatures are they not?"
"They are ." I answer Thor.
"Then I wish to see these Bison."
"Okay, we can go see the bison," Steve concedes, "But then we have to get back to cook dinner after that. No more detours."
Natasha and Sam drive back to the facility, I follow Clint to the bison enclosure.
"Ladies first." Steve smiles allowing me to climb the stairs to the observatory platform first. He, Thor, and Clint follow. The bison are beautiful as always, Steve seems particularly moved.
"Just think what it would have been like back when bison filled the prairie, today are less than a thousand still in Kansas" I sigh wistfully, I can almost imagine it, almost. Thor must have decided to get a closer look at the bison because he jumps over the railing and into the enclosure, "Shit. He could get arrested for that."
"Language," Clint admonishes.
"Never going to live that down am I?"
"Of course not."
"Well technically speaking, Steve ages at half the rate of regular people, and everyone else except Thor ages regularly so he might, I mean if he dies of old age and not something else." I say, I really don't know why I just said, now Steve and Clint are staring at me in shock, "You didn't know about that? Oopsy-daisy, I guess you would have figured it out sooner or later."
"How do you know?" Steve asks, you can hear the quaver in his voice, yep, internalizes emotion.
"Intuition mostly, the Fey taught me a few tricks." I put my head in my hands as a sharp pain shoots through my brain, I keep talking at this point I will feel the pain whether I tell them everything or not. "That's where I was before SHIELD found me. The arch was a portal to Faery, only accessible to those with Fey heritage. Traveling through the portal awakened my latent powers. On the other side the Fey were waiting for me, the journey knocked me out and they took me to the Palace of Lights and Shadows. I stayed there for two years learning to control my powers and fly. They also taught me archery, fencing, various martial arts, knife throwing, Latin, and a few other things. Going back through the portal activates a spell that will put me in a coma for three days if I even so much as mention anything about the Fey, Faerie, or the other realms. If anyone I tell the secret to reveals the secret to anyone they the spell will kill them with ten times the pain. And someone better do something about Thor, he is still in the bison enclosure and they don't feel too happy."
No sooner is the last word out my mouth then I collapse.
