"You don't have the key?"
"No. Can Peter just melt the handcuffs?"
"Only if I want to be burned by the molten metal dripping down my wrist."
"I forgot you aren't fire-resistant."
"Any other ideas genius?"
"Well we could pick-"
"Tried it."
"How about-"
"Tried it."
"Seriously dude let me finish at least."
"The only way to remove the handcuffs is with the key. Which we were told you had."
"Oh. Can we-"
"No. The handcuffs are designed for super villains and people like Thor and Hulk and Captain America. Trust me, the only way to get them off is with the key."
"What if it isn't an actual key, a key can be stolen right? So what if the handcuffs are keyed to a voice and retinal scan or.... and the key might be one of the Avengers I had to defeat... that makes sense, and then that would explain the whole 'Beth has the key' thing right? But who and what? I suppose we could borrow some of Krizzy's Truth Serum and interrogate them, but then if it's voice activated their voices would be different drunk. We could just tie them up real quick.... wait a minute. Who was overseeing your test?"
"Hawkeye, Thor, and Sam. Stark and Banner are testing Wanda, you have Bucky, Steve, and Nat. Which leaves Loki and the elves unaccounted for, my guess would be that they are testing Loki but I didn't see or hear them so I really wouldn't know, they might have taken him through a portal." Eliza says.
"Who exactly put the handcuffs on?"
"Hawkeye."
"An arrow! If it's an actual 'key' then I bet it has something to do with something we both have in common." I grab an arrow from my quiver and compare the arrow head to the keyhole of the handcuffs. That isn't an actual keyhole. The slit that looks like a hinge is the important part. I place the arrowhead into the outline and press it in. The handcuffs click open.
"So your test was for me to solve the puzzle?"
"No. The test was to make our way to New York handcuffed to each other, disable your Avengers so we could kidnap you and have you unlock us."
"So I'm guessing you had to fight your way out of the tower?"
"A little bit. Flying here was kind of hard too. Hawkeye was copilot but we had to most of the flying. He was just there as insurance in case we lost control or couldn't reach something all handcuffed together and all, figured he'd probably at least make sure we landed safely even if it wasn't at our destination. Peter threw the parachutes out of the door at takeoff and Hawkeye isn't suicidal."
"Oh. Natasha flew us out here while I was unconscious, I screamed and railed and cursed at Steve and played the confused civilian as he tried to talk me into opening the trunks, I gave in and he untied me so I could open the trunks and that was the opening I needed."
"They are coming around." Krizzy interjects.
Eliza whispers, "Meet you by the rings. Hourly."
"See you later." I wave as she and Peter leave. Krizzy is doing the whole mysterious and stoic ninja thing again so she merely stands there though I suspect she mindspeaks a farewell.
Steve is the first to awaken. He sits up and grabs his shield prepared to react to an attack.
"They already left Captain, it was just Peter and Eliza. You weren't in any danger anyhow, Krizzy and I are more or less immune, resistant at least, to most human sedatives and poisons in dosages meant for humans. That's how I was able to hid the darts I used to knock you and Bucky out, it took three for you to go down and I pricked myself with at least four or five as I was making them and handling them in my room and a few more than directly to the neck while I was on the plane plus who knows how many while I was asleep. I'm pretty sure the sedative you used on me only worked because of my natural sleep cycle, since my body already wanted to fall asleep it allowed the sedative to take effect." I ramble, "And I'm doing it again aren't I?"
