The first priority is to get the remaining civilians out of the city or to safety below ground in the subways. Eliza and I, with our distance weapons, are put in charge of providing cover for the civilians and taking out aliens targeting them. Peter is directing traffic, leading everyone to safety. The more experienced Avengers are in the thick of things, though Wanda and Sam are leading a second group of people to safety. I only take down a few Chitauri who get to close. A group of off duty military with guns on them help get this group to safety.

I fly Eliza up to a rooftop where she can see to control the storm she is swirling through the ranks of the Chitauri. Peter rejoins Steve and the others on the ground. Stark, Sam, and I fly around taking out their flying thingies, the little hover craft things. Hulk smashes the giant sea snake machines swimming through the air. On the ground the others spread out a bit and take out the Chitauri as they cross paths with them. There are hundreds of them, in the air, in the snake things, on the ground. I run out of arrows as does Clint before we've even made a noticeable dent in the ranks. And between the to of us we had at least a hundred and fifty or more arrows. I know I had about seventy five arrows to begin with and I think Clint had about the same. After that I'm left with my gun. It was a backup pplan so I only have a few clips. I go through most of them but hold one back for emergencies and switch to magic. I bust open a water tower and manipulate that for a while, killing as many Chitauri as I can.

I'm running low on power so I munch on a few energy bars and covert the extra calories into raw magical power. Hooray for Fey genetics. The hastily converted food will only extend my power for so long before I can no longer maintain the deadly waves of water.

Between Eliza and Thor the sky is clouded over and rumbling with thunder. From my vantage point flying between the skyscrapers I can see Sep and Theo decapitating Chitauri with their swords. Dominicus, in dragon form is helping Hulk destroy the giant flying monsters.I bemoan my lack of arrows as I fly about pushing Chitauri off their hover craft. Wait, my arrows, I fletched them with my feathers. I can call them back if I have enough power left in the reservoir. And I do. My arrows fly back to me going straight through Chitauri on their way to me.

And that's when I get a laser to the wing. I crash through the glass of an office building and black out.

...........................

Someone shakes my shoulder muttering "Please don't be dead, please don't be dead."

In my halfway conscious state I grumble, "I'm no-oot d-eaaddd. Dead ppeeeooople caaan't kiiiilll yooou."

A masculine chuckle, "I don't think you can kill me right now."

"Ii'm mmmmaaa-gickal. Bibbity bobbity boo! Yoou lucky Iii need yoou heeelp. "

"Uh huh. Magical. Riiight."

"Truue. Wiings. Burneddd. Rolllll mee ooover." He gently rolls me onto my side and then onto my stomach, I think he's already pulled me out of the pile of glass I fell into but I can feel the little pieces in my skin. My wings are tucked close to my back, folded in, I stretch it out and he helps unfurl it.

"Holy shit."

"Noooo. Noo holy. Nooo shiit. Nee-eed foood. Too heeeaal wiiings. I'm 'veenger. Fiight bad aliens."

"Uh huh, so are you Falcon or Hawkeye?"

"Nooo. Eaglet. Foood. I caaan heeeeel wiings iff foood."

"I don't have any food. I've a few pieces of gum that's all."

"Kay. Gummm isss sssugar. Shu-ger maakes 'mergenceee ppppower."

"Uh huh." He sounds doubtful but he unwraps a piece of gum and puts it in my mouth. I swallow it without chewing. A few seconds to convert, I divert all the magic to healing my wing and the worst of the cuts from the glass. The gum only provides a little bit of power. " 'Nother. Please."

The second piece finishes my wing but I can't draw it back in while the skin and feathers are so tender and new. I I rise slowly to my feet and turn around to view my rescuer. "Parker?"

"You're the other Peter's little sister aren't you?"

"Cousin actually."

"Oh right. Hey! They let you join but not me!" He sounds wounded, metaphorically not literally.

"Um, because I'm a superhero and stuff?"

"Yeah, I'm Spider-man."

"Who?"

"Spider-man." He groans, "You know, just 'your friendly neighborhood spider-man', newspapers hate me, No?"

I shrug." I've been a little of touch with the mainworld the last couple of years. That explains the fancy costume though."

He is wearing some sort of red bodysuit though the matching mask is laying on one of the desks I skidded over. Peter Parker went to school with Peter while we were in New York one year. Peter visited us a few times since then but the two of us were never really close. I had a little bit of an awkward crush on him in middle school, I found his social awkwardness endearing but then my family moved farther away and I moved on. "Spider-man? Why spiders exactly?"

"One of them bit me and gave me spidey senses. Why an Eagle?"

"I have wings. Besides Falcon and Hawk were already taken, hummingbird doesn't sound as cool. And the Thor called me 'young eaglet' so then it became Eaglet and not just Eagle. Which is just as well because Bald Eagle makes me sound like Uncle Steve's sidekick. Could be worse, I could be Spidergirl or something."

"Everybody loves Spiders."

"No. Everyones hates Spiders. And tries to squish them.Besides I thought you were scared of spiders."

"No! I  was never scared of spiders. I screamed because I saw a, um, a cockroach, yeah it was a cockroach. If you're healed now we should get back to the fight."

"Yeah, I'm good enough. See you around Peter." I dive out the window on my newly healed wing. Dang nabbit that hurts. A figure in a red suit leaps out behind me. Just when I'm about to rescue him he swings across on a, what is that, a spiderweb sort of thing like Tarzan and makes his way to the fight. Actually now that I think about it, there are more super heroes out here than just us. Nice to know that there are others dedicated to doing good with their special abilities. The battle is over, only a few stragglers remain. The other heroes disappear and leave us to mop up the final aliens.

Once a final sweep of the streets has been we regroup at the tower. Steve passes out granola bars and water bottles, given the extra power I can pull the last of my arrows back. Everyone takes inventory of injuries, nothing major, just a few cuts and bruises and my more or less healed wing. The bus returns and we head back to the SHIELD facility to rest. In the morning we will head back home to Avengers' tower and wait for the next battle.
