Kayleigh POV
We all went into the back garden for sparkling juice that Niall’s cook had brought out for us. We were awkwardly waiting for Seth. I looked around at everyone’s faces as they were getting worried, anxious, and just plan annoyed at the fact that Seth was almost an hour late. Sadie and Zayn were sitting together, very close on a tanning lounger and talking in hushed tones, but I knew it was about whether or not Zayn thought Seth was going to show. Jennifer, Liam, Harry and Cara were all trying to distract me by talking about what music they thought they would play and how the food was going to be. I really appreciated my friends trying to cheer me up, but all I could think about was what Seth was doing that was so important that he couldn’t even answer my calls or texts. It also wasn’t helping that Louis and Bella were at each other’s throats again about whether one or not the other knew Niall was so rich. It was just adding tension to my already freaked out state. Lucy could tell and was trying to shut Bella up.
“Hey” Liam said to me noticing my expression and pulling me aside to the side of the awning, behind a swing. He put a hand on my cheek and gave me a crooked smile. “He’ll be here.” He said his words and his touch made me feel better.
“I hope so.” I replied giving him a weak smile. He tapped the tip if my nose with his finger and pulled me back with everyone else. Just as we got to the door leading into the house, we heard Bella say:
“It’s about damn time, Broden.” Seth walked out into the garden looking absolutely fit! We made eye contact and my heart started racing.
“Oh thank God” I muttered to Liam who had a strange look on his face. His jaw and fists were slightly clenched, but I didn’t know why. Weird.
Zayn POV
I saw Liam clench his jaw and fists and followed his gaze to Seth. I saw the way he looked at Kayleigh. He looked her up and down like an animal. It was gross. I knew it really bothered Liam, so I grabbed Sadie by the hand and we joined Liam’s side. I gave him a knowing look. He nodded and relaxed a bit.
“Seth sure did take is sweet ole’ time getting here didn’t he?” Said Sadie quietly but annoyed. I looked at her and she gave me an innocent look. I couldn’t help but crack a smile at her.
“Okay everyone!” called Niall’s mom. “Everyone around the pool!” We all stood around the pool on the marble deck. We took turns taking pictures of each couple, the entire group, just the guys, just the girls, etc., etc. until finally the limo arrived to take us to prom!
“Love you! Have fun! Be safe!” we heard our parents shout to us as we climbed into the limo.
I sat next to Sadie and put my hand on her leg as she wrapped her arm around mine. Sadie was sitting next to Niall who had Lucy in his lap with her arm draped around his shoulders and laughing hysterically about something he had just said. Harry was on the other side of me with Cara she had her elbow resting on his shoulder was looking across from her to Kayleigh and Seth. Kayleigh was looking adoringly into Seth’s eyes as he told her again about how he’d pulled the ‘world’s best prank’ on the high school in the next town. I had heard it about seven hundred times and so had she by now, but she acted like it was new every time. Across from them were Louis and Bella who were ignoring each other for the most part and talking to Liam and Jenifer who were next to them. “Alright let’s get this party started!” Seth yelled as we blasted “Cheers” by Rihanna
“WOOO!” We all responded
Seth pulled out a flask and started passing it around. I knew how he was. Seth, Niall and I were on the same football team and Niall and I exchanged a look. We both knew how he got when he was drunk. We’d seen it. We finally arrived at the park that they were having prom at. It was beautiful. Kayleigh and the rest of the committee had done an amazing job with decorating and planning.
Sadie smiled and kissed me on the cheek as we headed to the booth where they took our tickets. We all checked our coats and found the table we were all sitting at.
“Let’s dance!” Harry suggested as “Give Me Everything” started to play. He grabbed Cara’s hand and she followed him as they skipped to the dance floor. Everyone else got up and followed them smiling and singing along and laughing to the music. I felt a lump in my throat.
“Fuck” I muttered to myself. I was most worried about this part.
“Come on babe!” Sadie said hugging me around the waist and pulling me toward the dance floor and our friends.
“I don’t know, Sadie” I said with an uneasy look on my face. I had been practicing with Liam for weeks now, but I still didn’t think I had it in me to actually dance in front of people. Sadie looked into my eyes and said:
“Just follow me” and gave me a cheeky grin. I let her drag me by the pinky finger to the dance floor. She held both of my hands and intertwined our fingers. She began to sway her hips. I followed along and got more comfortable with the music. I looked over at Louis who was trying to teach Bella the ‘pat the dog, screw the light bulb’ and Bella was surprisingly laughing quite hard as she tried to mimic it. Niall was twirling Lucy by one finger. Kayleigh was being dipped, dramatically by Seth as they were both laughing. Cara had her back to Harry who had his hands on her hips as they swayed comfortably to the music, giggling. Then I looked straight at Sadie who was smiling at me with her big brown eyes. I suddenly got the feeling that I could do anything. So I did. I grabbed Sadie by the waist and spun her around as she lifted her feet off the ground and let out a squeal and a laugh. We stopped spinning and she wrapped her arms around my neck and quickly crashed her lips into mine. I could feel her smiling through the kiss. I smiled back and we started laughing and dancing all over again.
