Harry POV
“Look, Niall I already told you, there’s no Nando’s around here for miles!” Sadie tried to explain to Niall for the hundredth time why we weren’t going to Nando’s for dinner. We chuckled in the car at their little argument. Kayleigh was patting his head in a soothing way, to calm him down. He just really loves Nando’s. We got home and started cooking dinner. Cara had pulled Kayleigh aside, I had noticed, and they were deep in conversation about something. I wasn’t really paying attention however, I was manning the kitchen. I groaned as I watched Liam and Louis try to figure out how to even open the package of bread. I rolled my eyes and passed them a pair of scissors. Cara came up to me, after giving Kayleigh a head nod.
“Hey, um Haz, can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure” I said “um Kayls, can you take control of the kitchen please, don’t let them ruin anything.”
“You got it, boss.” She said as she walked quickly over to Bella who was about to put the can of spaghetti sauce in the microwave. She shook her head at Bella and said very nicely and calmly-
“no, dear, nooo. That would make a fire.”
I followed Cara into her room and she seemed very nervous. She was pacing around while I stretched out on her bed.
“You alright? What’s up?” I asked
“Okay well. Here’s the thing. I feel bad that I haven’t really given you an explanation as to why I can’t go out with you.”
“Ahh, so that’s what this is about.” I said, looking down.
“Yeah. Um I’m going to be really honest with you and it’s really hard for me to say this but I know I can trust you and I had a huge conversation with Kayleigh about whether or not to even tell you and I guess here it goes.”
“You can tell me” I said looking at her and realizing that she was about to tell me something I really didn’t want to hear. Instead of saying something to me, she lifted up her shirt and showed me a scar on her back.
“Isn’t that the scar you got from playing rugby last year?” I asked, confused as to why this had anything to do with why she couldn’t be my girlfriend.
“That’s what I told everyone, but, Harry, do you remember last year when Alex got cut from the football team and he was really upset?” she started to get really nervous. I was just so confused, what did Alex and her rugby scar and him being mad and- okay. I got it.
“It wasn’t from rugby.” I stated. She shook her head and started to cry.
“He was really mad and, I was the first person he saw after the news and. Um. He shoved me into the ice chest in his basement.” I got really sad for her and then I got mad.
“Why didn’t you ever tell us, Cara?” I said fuming, not looking at her.
“I couldn’t Harry! I mean I told Kayleigh obviously but can you imagine what you guys would have done to him? At that time in my life I was so lost that I thought it was just an accident or that we was joking or something. Harry look at me.” She said, standing up to face me. I looked at her and saw all of her mascara running and her eyes were so red. “You’re not allowed to be mad at me.” She stated “I need you to not be mad.”
“Okay.” Was all I could say. I was trying to calm myself down. She didn’t need another angry boyfriend. She needed someone who she could trust and talk to and she just needed me. “I’m so sorry I never noticed, Cara.”
“Don’t be, Harry.” She said wrapping her arms around me. I wrapped my arms around her back and lifted her shirt a little bit with my fingers, to see her scar again. I softly ran my fingers over it and she let out a shiver. She pulled back and gave me a kiss on the cheek. “Like I said before, when I’m ready, you’ll know. I really hope this helped you understand though, why I just can’t rush into anything right now.”
“It did. And like I said before,” I pulled her face inches away from mine and touched her forehead to mine. I wiped her running makeup away with my thumbs. “I’ll be here waiting”. She closed her eyes and smiled as I ran my fingers through her hair. And down her back, pulling her back into a hug.
“Do you smell that?” she asked, pulling away.
“The garlic bread.” Harry said and we ran out to the kitchen. There was a gray smoke coming from the oven and Kayleigh was jogging over to us.
“I’m so sorry Harry! I know you had this all planned perfectly.” She said apologetically.
“It’s okay.” I chuckled
“So I have Nando’s number in my phone, want me to call?” Niall smiled, motioning to his phone.
