Cara’s POV
It was really hard not having Kayleigh with me at school today. I was standing in the bathroom trying to cover up the big blue and green bruise on my jawline. Kayleigh was the only person who knew about Alex’s anger. I made her swear not to tell. She’s a really good friend. I really needed someone to cry to right now but I had no one. I asked Alex if we could wear pink to prom. He didn’t want to and got angry. I got it covered up the best I could. It looked like a shadow now. I walked out and headed to the water fountain. As I leaned down someone tapped me on the back. I gasped, overreacting to this minor gesture. I couldn’t help it I was always on my toes lately. I smacked my top lip on the fountain.
“Owwww” I groaned.
“Sorry” I heard a soft gravelly voice say. I turned. Harry.
“Hey Harry…” I knew it sounded sulky but I didn’t feel like covering up my emotions today.
“You okay? I mean besides the fat lip forming?” I groaned.
“Okay.”
“Anything I can do to make you feel better?”
“HEY” boomed a voice from down the hall interrupting us. Alex was speed-walking towards us now. I was suddenly aware of how intimate we looked. We were standing about an inch apart and he was looking down at me with those big blue eyes. I pushed him away, a second too late realizing how suspicious that looked.
“Look calm down man, we were only talking” said Harry in a soothing voice.
“Was I talking to you?” sneered Alex. I hated him when he was sober. He was big into weed and it kept him sane, for a little while.
“Alex!” I said cheerily trying to change the mood of the conversation. I gave him a big sloppy kiss. He grabbed my butt and squeezed, way too hard. I saw Harry out of the corner of my eye shake his head and look down. I pulled away, wiping my lips, embarrassed.
“We’re hangin after school today.” That meant are we having sex today…
“I don’t know Alex, I need to go home. I’m really tired and have homework to do.”
“I don’t remember asking” was all he said and he turned on the spot and left the opposite way he came.
“Sorry about that” I said.
“It’s alright” said Harry and walked me to math. A gesture Alex has never even offered to me. We got to the door. I turned to say thank you when he quickly grabbed my wrist.
“What happened to you?” he asked.
“You made me smack my face into the fountain remember?” I said nervously.
“I didn’t make you hit your jaw did I?” he held my hand urging me with his eyes to tell him. I wanted to. Instead my stupid eyes decided they needed to cry. I quickly turned from him and ran to the bathroom. My mascara was running I could feel it stinging my eyes. I could vaguely hear Harry calling my name but he didn’t come after me. Thank God. That’s what was nice about Harry he didn’t push.
