Sadie’s POV
Zayn said he had a surprise for me. I was so excited and nervous at the same time. We drove for a long time further and further into the mountains in the middle of nowhere.
“You aren’t taking me somewhere to kill me are you?” I asked jokingly. He stayed quiet and looked at me sheepishly. “Zayn!” I said slapping him lightly on the arm. He laughed hard.
“We’re almost there.” He said smiling. We soon turned onto a dirt path. Yep, he’s definitely going to kill me. We drove until we ran out of road. He got out and went to the trunk. Is this really where he planned to take me? Whatever, I was down for anything with him. I got out and didn’t realize how cold it was up here in the mountains. He came over to my side and handed me a pair of sweatpants.
“Here put these on, they’re warmer than tights.” He said. I slipped them on over my tights and he called for me to put on the sweatshirt too. He had changed into a hoodie and sweatpants, himself. He had an electric lantern in one hand, a blanket in the other.
“Are we camping?” I asked questioningly.
He laughed “I wasn’t planning on it!”
He led the way a few feet into the trees and into a little clearing. “This is my little haven; I’ve never brought anyone here, well except Liam.” Of course, my brother and Zayn were in love. I giggled and he set out the blanket and sat down patting the space beside him. I sat down cross- legged and pulled my sleeves over my hands happy to be wearing his pants. They were comfy, maybe I’ll keep them. He laid back and looked up at the stars. His jawline caught the moonlight so perfectly. It was so hot. I resisted the urge to jump on him and kiss him. He looked over at me and smiled crookedly, it was adorable. I crawled over closer and laid my head on his stomach looking up. He wrapped his arm around my stomach and I rested my arms on top of his.
“It’s really relaxing up here.” I said. He made a noise of agreement and it was clear he was deep in thought.
He suddenly started singing. “I've got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it's cold outside I've got the month of May” I was shocked, I sat up and turned to look at him. He kept singing not noticing I got up. I sat with my knees curled up to my chin, bursting with excitement. He was amazing, I was melting inside. When he finished the song he looked over at me.
“That was amazing.” I said trying to contain myself.
“No one else has heard me sing. Not even Liam.” He said shyly. “Your turn!” He said, getting up on his elbows.
“Oh no, I’m not as good as you!” I said nervously, hoping he wouldn’t push this.
“Fine,” It was like he read my mind. “You will sing for me soon enough, Sadie Payne.”
I smiled and lay back on his stomach. We stared at the stars a little while longer while I thought about what song to sing him. I knew, we hummed ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis at the fountain at prom and that’s what I was going to sing. I sat up, closed my eyes, and started;
“Today is gonna be the day That they're gonna throw it back to you By now you should've somehow Realized what you gotta do I don't believe that anybody Feels the way I do, about you now”
I opened my eyes and he was sitting in front of me. His mouth was hanging open and I was blushing like crazy.
“Ahhhh” I said as I laid back and put my hands over my eyes. He crawled over me and pulled my hands away, now straddling me. It was kind of funny.
“You are so cute.” He kissed my hands and pulled me up to my feet. “You ready to head home?”
Not really. “I guess so.” I said trying to sound happy. He picked up the lantern and blanket in one hand and grabbed my hand with the other. When we got back to the car he went to the trunk.
“I’m gonna take my dress off, it’s uncomfortable under my sweatshirt.” I said. “I was about to say don’t look, but you already saw me in my bra. NOT by my choosing.” I called slyly.
“HA- You’re hilarious.” He mocked. I pulled my dress off and pulled my sweater on, I walked back to the trunk to throw it in the back.
“Better?” he asked
“Much, thanks.” I said smiling at him. We stood facing at each other for what seemed like forever. He was looking directly into my eyes. I looked away.
He cleared his throat “Let’s hit it.”
We jumped in the car and cranked N’sync, His favorite. We screamed ‘Bye Bye Bye’ at the top of our lungs as we flew down the highway. We were having a really fun time letting go and rockin out but we suddenly saw a huge branch in the middle of the road. Zayn gasped and breaked and swerved at the same time trying to dodge the massive branch. The car swung around and I felt something smack into my chest, taking my breath away. The front of the car smashed into the median and the air bags popped, taking my breath once again. The front of the car was smashed and crushed my right leg. I screamed in pain as I tried to move it. I looked down and Zayn’s hand lay in my lap. He must’ve tried to stop the impact. That was the first smack I felt. I looked over at him and he lay with his head on the steering wheel passed out. I screamed again. I scrambled for my phone. It was in the back seat, in my purse, with my dress. There was no way I could reach it with my leg stuck. I reached into Zayn’s pocket for his. My hands were shaking like crazy as I called 911. I was having a hard time telling the operator what happened through my hysterics but finally she got the information and informed me help was on the way. I sat and cried as the paramedics, fire fighter, and police showed up.
