Zayn’s POV

It was five o’clock. I would leave to get her in fifteen minutes, I have been dressed for hours every few minutes going to fuss with my hair and check my phone to make sure she doesn’t cancel. I tried to sit down and watch tv. I didn’t even know what was on, I was so distracted. My knees were shaking and my stomach was doing crazy flip flops. It was finally 5:13 and I jumped up and practically ran to the door. One last spritz of colon, grab two pairs of sweatpants and two blankets and slipped on my shoes. I grabbed my keys and my phone and jumped in the jeep. I tried my best to go slowly but I still was there at 5:23. Damn. I went and knocked on the door anyway. Liam answered.

 “Oh hey!” he said cheerily.

“Liam, is that Zayn?” she called from inside somewhere.

“Yep” he called

We heard a little yelp and a bang. “One sec!”

Liam laughed “She’s so nervous, bro.”

“Me too” I whispered.

“You thirsty?” he asked walking into the kitchen.

“Nah, I’m good,” I said following. I hadn’t been in this house since me and Sadie started dating. I felt like I had to act differently.

“Relax bro. Take a seat.” He said calmly.

As soon as I sat down Sadie came running down the stairs. “Hey.” She said trying to act calm. She was clearly out of breath. She looked amazing though, in all black. I stood up and grabbed her hand.

“You ready?” I asked. She headed towards the door.

“You kids don’t stay out too late!” Liam called as we walked out the door.

I opened the door for her like I’d seen in movies and she smiled at me. Tonight was going to be amazing. I had reservations to this little Italian place downtown. I turned on the radio. I looked over at her. She looked back and I turned to face the road. She hummed along to the radio and I looked at her again. She looked back; I looked into her eyes for a second and turned back to the road.

“What?” she asked impatiently.

“Your hair just looks nice that way, that’s all.”  Out of the corner of my eye, I watched her check her hair in the side mirror.

“Oh, thanks.” She said. She was blushing; I could hear it in her voice. We were going to a little Italian restaurant downtown. We drove for another half hour casually talking. Workin the weather. After we parked I got out and waited for her at the back of my jeep. I didn’t want to open the door again and be corny.  As we waited to cross the street I noticed what she was wearing.

“Wow” I started not realizing I had. She looked up at me quickly.

“What?” she asked.

“I just realized how hungry I was.” I said casually putting my hands in my pockets and looking forward waiting for the light to change. Once it did, my hand instinctively went to her back and I walked forward. She shuddered lightly and walked on. This made me smile.

When we got to our table she didn’t even pick up her menu. “You planning to eat?” I said smiling.

She giggled lightly, “I know what I want.”

“I love a girl who knows what she wants.” I said smirking. She rolled her eyes as the waiter walked up. We both ordered and I sat back watching Sad'ie. She was playing with her necklace, looking around.

“Look, I know I went out of order with this, asking you to be my girlfriend before we even went on a date, but I feel like this is our first date. I’m going to treat it that way, like we’ve never kissed or anything.” I said.

“I think that’s a great idea!” she said happily.

Through the rest of dinner, we talked about what each of us like to do. I realized she can play the piano and sing, same as me. She also hates spitting and spray tans, but loves candy and the beach. I paid for us without giving her time to object and stood. I picked up her jacket and helped her slip it on. When we got out of the restaurant I grabbed her arm and wrapped it in mine. We headed back to the car and I helped her in.

“I have a surprise for you.” I said winking.

“What is it?” she asked curiously.

“You’ll see.”
