Zayn's POV
"This night has been better than I ever imagined." Sadie said hugging me.
We sat down on the edge of the fountain, her head on my shoulder, for a long time. I started humming "Wonderwall" by Oasis and she hummed along with me. She picked up her head and smiled at me. I kissed the tip of her nose and we continued humming. She could hum well, I wonder if she could sing. All of a sudden I saw Liam marching towards us.
Sadie picked her head up, "He's pissed." She said, worry in her voice. He got closer and we could see his fists balled up, jaw clenched, and face red as a tomato.
"What happened?" Sadie said getting up and walking over to him.
"I punched Seth" he muttered through clenched teeth. Sadie gasped and I started laughing, she shot me a glare and I stopped immediately.
"Why though?" I asked.
"I really don't wanna talk about it; I just came to find you." He said looking at me. Just then we saw Cara and Kayleigh running down the path, shoes in hand, towards us.
"Zayn! We really need to talk to you. Now." Cara panted.
I stood up and we they pulled me aside. Sadie stayed with Liam trying to calm him down. Cara proceeded to tell me she caught Kevin Harvey and Jennifer hooking up. Shit-balls. Liam was already having a bad night and now they wanted me to tell him she, the girl he told me he loves, that she's cheating on him. I told them not to tell Sadie, I would. I didn't need her trying to stick around when I told him. Cara and Kayleigh took Sadie to get drinks. I sat down on the fountain ledge with Liam. "How are you doin bro?"
"I told her." He said with his head down. I had no idea what he was talking about. "I told her I loved her, Zayn." He said looking up at me. "She said 'thank you' and left. She went home, Amber's just told me. I scared her into leaving the biggest night of our high school years."
"I'm so sorry man. But, I gotta tell you something..." He was already in a terrible place. I was so scared of what his reaction was going to be. "Jennifer didn't go home. She came out here to hook up with Kevin Harvey." I said, but he wouldn't make eye contact with me.
"You're lying." He said darkly.
"Cara and Kayleigh both saw them." I said trying to find his eyes. He broke down. He slid off the ledge and fell to his knees. His hands were face up in his lap and head down. He started to cry. One after another tears started falling until he was sobbing. I couldn't see him this way. I dropped to my knees next to him. I put my arm around his shoulder. I sat and said nothing for a long time. He looked up at me with red, watery eyes.
"Why?" he whispered. He didn't look angry, just sad. I really just wanted him to be okay again. I just didn't know what to say to make it better. On cue, like always, Kayleigh came around the corner to save the day. I gave him one last hug and walked over to Kayleigh who was standing a few yards away.
"He doesn't seem mad." I said to her. She gave me a smile and a hug and walked head up to Liam. I walked quickly back to the tent. I really needed to see Sadie; I just hoped she wouldn't ask any questions I didn't feel like talking about it. Seeing Liam like that made me feel that way and made me think of what I would do if Sadie ever did that to me. I spotted her red hair on the other side talking to Niall. I pretty much ran to her. I just wanted to hold her.
"I need you." I whispered in her ear. She made an excuse on the spot and excused herself. We walked, hand in hand, in the opposite direction of the fountain passed groping couples among the trees. We walked for a good 5 minutes in silence. This is why I love her, she doesn't pester me. I stopped and faced her holding her hands in mine. She smiled up at me. She looked so beautiful tonight. Her hair was straight, opposed to her perfect red curls. She blew me away. Why was I getting butterflies?
"What?" she said, straightening her dress and fussing with her hair. I grabbed her hands again. "You look perfect, that's all." I kissed her full on the mouth wrapping my arms around her waist and hugging her like a teddy bear. All my sadness went away when I was with her. I forgot to tell her I was upset or why I even brought her out here. All I could think about was Miss Sadie Payne.
