I let out an annoyed groan at the warm sensation hitting my face and turn my head away before opening my eyes. I look around the room, at first very confused by my surroundings until I recalled the events of last night.I climb out of bed and open the door, immediately being greeted by something delicious in the air. I walk towards the kitchen and saw Cordell making a delicious looking breakfast at the stove. He looks over his shoulder and smile when he sees me. "Good morning. Hope you slept alright."
I let out a small yawn as I brush my messy hair out of my face. "I slept alright, all things considered." I said, taking a seat on one of the stools at the island counter. "What are you making?" I asked, curiously.
"Breakfast burrito." He simply stated, his eyes focused on the food. "Man after my own heart." I said, jokingly and Cordell chuckles as he started scooping up the eggs and meat into a tortilla.
"You want any coffee?" He asked, glancing over at me before folding the tortilla to make a burrito. I nodded, feeling the daily desire for caffeine in the morning. "Yes, please."
Cordell stop what was he doing and grabs a mug from the cabinet, filling it with coffee and even taking the extra time to prepare it exactly how I like it.
I smile warmly at the sight, finding something so peaceful about how domestic this all feels. I mean sure, I've had breakfast up at the main house sometimes. But there's something so intimate and private about this, that you can't experience with seven people, all crammed into one kitchen.
Cordell set the mug down next to me and went back to preparing the burritos. After a minute or two, he walked over with a plate and set it down in front of me, there sat two freshly made burritos.
My smile grew even more as I glance up from my plate to look at Cordell. "Thanks cowboy, this is perfect." I said and the corner of Cordell's mouth twitches slightly.
He grab himself some coffee and took a seat on the stool next to me at the counter. "No need to thank me, it's just food." He brushed off and I chuckle, picking up one of the burritos and taking a bite, humming in pleasure at the taste.
Cordell sips his coffee and glances up when August came tottering down the stairs, already dress for the day. "Mornin' bud. You're up earlier than usual." He noted, setting his mug down on the table.
"Yeah well, I still have a lot of make up chores to do on..." August said, stopping by the counter when he notices me. "...the... ranch." He murmured, his eyes flicking between his father and I.
I nearly choked on my burrito when I saw the flustered look on his face, fearing that he was jumping to conclusions. "Something wrong, Augie?" Cordell asked, casually.
August shook his head one too many times. "No, no, no! Everything fine, I was just uh... wondering... wondering why you're eating breakfast here and not up at Gramps and Mawline?"
Cordell glanced over at me for a split second with an amused smile before turning his eyes back to his son. "(Name) had a bit of a... situation last night. So she spent the night here."
Oh wow Cordell, that doesn't sound like an innuendo at all. Feeling my cheeks flush red, I return my eyes to my food and went back to eating, praying that this would be over soon.
August look even more flustered as he begins backing up. "Oh uh... okay. You um..." He mumbled, bumping into the door. "You guys enjoy you're... whatever this is." He said, fumbling with the door knob until he got it to open and hurried outside.
A quiet laugh escaped from Cordell's lips. "He's not very good at being subtle, is he?" He said and I hum in agreement, swallowing my bite. "I wonder where he gets that from."
