Cordell enters the Walker house, dressed in his Ranger uniform and hangs his hat up on the vanity as he hears his family chatting in the kitchen. He turns in the direction of their banter, smiling and savoring the fact everything is back to normal.
"Bon, he's teasing her." Abby said to her husband, who lets out annoyed grunt. "You were teasing her, right?" She said in a hushed voice to August. "Yeah."
"I smell coffee." Cordell said loudly as he enter the kitchen and everyone perks up at his voice. "Oh! Hey!" Abby greeted cheerfully. "Hey, hey!" Cordell said, grinning as he hugs (Name) from behind, who was sitting on one of the stools at the counter with Liam and Stella.
(Name) laughs happily, weakly patting his forearm as she was unable to move her arms very well in Cordell's bear hug. "I just made it fresh." Abby announced, picking up the coffee pot.
"Perfect timing." Cordell said and plants a quick kiss to the top of (Name's) head before releasing her to get his mug. "So what did the doctor say?" (Name) asked as Abby hands her son his coffee.
"Well, IIIIIIIIIII... passed my two-week checkup with flying colors. They do want me to carry on with, uh, physical therapy though, so..." Cordell explains. "Well, you had your bell rung." Bonham said, buttering his toast. "Yeah." Cordell murmured.
"I just can't wait to tell Geri in person thank you for getting you through that." Abby said as Cordell removes a paper towel off the plate of bacon, only to see there was none left. "Ah, great." He grumbled.
"You can have the rest of mine, cowboy." (Name) said, pushing her plate towards Cordell. "Thank you, darlin'." Cordell said, casting a tender smile at her as he pluck a bacon from the plate.
Stella and August watches the two, feeling a bit awkward by how affectionate they now are with each since deciding to see if dating could work for them. They're happy for their father nonetheless, it just gonna take some getting used to.
"Hey, did Geri ever tell you what kept her gone so long?" Liam asked his brother. "Uh, when she's ready." Cordell replied, popping the bacon in his mouth. "Mmm, she's actually stopping by The Side Step today. Um... Uh, Stella Blue, did she text you or Colton what time?"
"Uh, no, not yet. And Colton actually left for Vegas this morning." Stella announces. "No way! That's actually happening?" August asked, excitedly and Stella hums with a nod.
"What-what... what's happening? Colton's in Vegas? Okay. You better not be planning to meet him there and get married, because if he proposed to you." Cordell begins to said, pointing at his daughter, who was not as amused by the joke.
"Okay, no way in the world she would go to Vegas..." Abby said over the top of her son. "...without calling your daddy first..." Cordell continues to say. "...to marry when she has a perfectly good venue right here." Abby said, gesturing towards the backyard.
"No, no. No. There is a chef there." Stella said, loudly to be overheard by both of them. "Colton submitted to this culinary internship a while back. He didn't get in, but the person that they picked dropped out and they called him. It happened kind of all of sudden."
"That's fantastic!" Abby exclaimed with a big smile. "That's great!" Bonham said. "That's big." Cordell said. "That's far." (Name) mutters, casting a concern look at Stella, wondering how she's feeling about a long distance relationship.
"Wait, so I basically have free rein to run the concert for the horse rescue tonight?" August asked. "Oh. We should go. Stel, Augie... Let's get going if I'm gonna drop you off at The Side Step." Liam said, raising up from his stool.
"What are you up to today?" Cordell asked. "I'm gonna hang out with Ben before the concert, so I'll, uh, I'll see you later." Liam said, pushing in his stool as Stella gets up as well.
