Cordell is lying asleep in his bed until the clock on his nightstand turns to 3AM, causing the alarm to go off. His eyes fluttered open, groaning as he sits up and looks around, his eyes lingering on the empty space beside him.

He glances down at his watch then to the clock, confirming the time and pinches the bridge of his nose as if trying to fight off the grogginess of his lack of sleep by sure will power, only to fall back onto the mattress.

He gets some more sleep before the alarm goes off again and he springs back up, breathing heavily. He looks at his watch, grimacing at the time and looks over at his clock seeing it was now 5AM. He's been sleeping through his other alarms.

He climbs out of bed, taking care of his business in the bathroom and making himself a cup of coffee before making his way to The Room, where the crime wall is waiting for him like always.

Meanwhile James is staring his morning off with getting out of bed at 5 as well but in a more healthy manner. He's lifting some weights in the gym at HQ with Trey and when he goes to his office, he makes himself a cup of tea while booking a vacation trip to Mexico to make things up with Kelly and show he's not gonna let this case ruin him again.

Beau and Brianna are waking up in their hotel room, where Brianna is attempting to get dress for the day but Beau comes up behind her and begins kissing her neck as he wraps his arms around her waist.

Brianna smiles in annoyance and swats at him like he's a fly as she tries to move away but he locks his arms in to trap her. She lets out a squeal of delight as he hoists her off her feet and carries her back to the bed.

In contrast, (Name) turns over in her bed and unconsciously reaches out for something only to feel the cold emptiness of the spot adjacent to her. She opens her eyes, blinking slowly as her eyes adjusted to the darkness.

She stares at empty pillow next to her for a prolong moment, her expression contrite. She climbs out of bed, shuffling out of her bedroom and over to the door to unlock it.

She opens the door, the cold morning air hitting her like a ripple in the water. Stepping out onto the porch, she peers over in the direction of the farmhouse and sees the light was on in the sunroom where Cordell is working.

With her shoulders slumping and her head hanging low, she let's out a small sigh as she retreats back into the guesthouse.

Arriving at Ranger HQ, Cassie smiles when she spots Trey in the hallway. "Did you get it?" She asked. "Good morning, Cass. Yeah, I did." He said as they both made their way to the office room.

"I knew it. So, my preliminary interview for the lieutenant's position is in ten days. You?" Cassie asked. "Me, too." Trey replied as they split up to drop their bags off at their desks.

"Well, you know what that means. We are officially in the top five." Cassie said, picking up a stack of files and a binder. "Yeah. We are." Trey said, unenthusiastically as he picks up his own stack.

"Aren't you excited?" Cassie asked, disappointed by his lack of enthusiasm. "Yeah, of course I'm excited. It's just, uh..." He said as they walked into the conference room, placing the stacks on the table.

"It's just that getting excited about a possible promotion while tracking down a horrifying serial killer is kind of a bummer?" Cassie asked. "Yeah. That's one way to put it."

Cassie furrow her brow and walks to one of the doors to look out at the courtyard, only to see Cordell and Geri there, sitting at one of the tables. Cassie smiles and waves to Geri, who returns it.

Trey goes to the other door, looking around at the office room that was strangely deserted. There was no one else around besides the four of them and James. It was like Night of The Comet in here.
