On Tuesday afternoon, Taehyung video calls me as I am getting back to my hotel.

"Birdie, are you busy?" he asks.

"No, just heading up to my room after going to the posh library. What's happening, love? Is it something about the photographer?"

"No, no, nothing like that. Don't worry. I am here with Namjoon-shi. He wants to speak with you, if that's OK?"

I study his face for a moment, then slide my card to open the elevator. "Sure, I can talk. Just give me a minute to get up to the room!"

Taehyung hums elevator music while I ride up to the fourth floor, and I chuckle at him. Once I'm inside, he tilts his phone so that I can also see Namjoon, who looks surprisingly nervous.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Eunen Sae-shi," he says with a serious look, bowing.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Namjoon-shi," I respond, bowing a bit less deeply. I wait to hear what he has to say.

"I, I wanted to apologize for what I said the other day," Namjoon says in English.

I nod, and sit down on the sofa. "OK, I am listening," I tell him in Korean, so that Taehyung can understand.

Namjoon glances quickly at Tae, and then goes on in Korean. "I am truly sorry for what I said. I have no excuse for that. It was rude, uncalled-for, and not a reflection of my opinion of you at all. I deeply apologize, Eunen Sae-Shi. And I have apologized to Taehyung-ie, as well." He bows and keeps his head down for about three seconds.

When he raises his eyes again, I give him a slight smile. "I accept your apology, Namjoon-shi." I study his face for a moment. "To be honest, when Taehyung-ie told me what you said, it didn't seem that bad, initially. As I'm sure you know, the direct translation in English is perhaps slightly off-color, but also even a strange kind of compliment. I didn't understand why Taehyung was so enraged by it." I look over at Tae and smile, and he nods. "But once he explained the context, or maybe I should say, the subtext, I felt surprised and disappointed. As I told him, it seems out of character for you, Namjoon-shi. I'm curious, why do you think you said it?"

Namjoon sighs and rubs his fingers over his eyes. "I could say that I'm under so much pressure, or something like that, but really... The truth is, I envy your relationship." He glances over at Tae again. "I've never dated someone I could just share all of my thoughts with, or write music together with, or laugh with the way you two do. At the Hybe party, and actually last night at dinner too, I saw you communicate whole sentences, or paragraphs even, just by looking at one another, and... yes, I am a little bit jealous." He hangs his head.

I nod, and take a moment to plan my next words. "Namjoon-shi, you have been carrying a heavy burden for your team for years, since you were literally a kid. And this is a time of extra stress and uncertainty, so I think it's perfectly understandable that you are wishing for, longing for, a partner to confide in, someone to help you carry your burden. As I mentioned to Tae before, you're human, and you're allowed to have those emotions!" I pause and give him a bigger smile. "I sincerely hope that you will meet someone who is as wonderful as you are very soon, and have a partnership like Taehyung-ie and I have."
