"Xavier!" Skylar yells out and Xavier turns around smiling "Hey Skylar and Ari" We walk up to the lunch table. "What took you so long?" Xavier asked. We both laughed. "We got held up," I replied. "Let's eat!"

We were skipping the first three periods to make sure homecoming was on track. We already have matching dresses and we are getting our makeup done after school so we are cool.

"Hey, Ari I didn't see you in the first period. Were you late?" I nod. "Yeah, we helped with the decorations," I explained. "We wanted to make sure everything was flawless." Skylar smiled at me.

"Are you coming to homecoming?" I ask Xavier grabbing the fruit cup. He shakes his head "Nah that shit is lame" Skylar's brows furrow "Wait for no Xavier for the past 3 years we came to homecoming together what changed your mind?"

Xavier sighs, "It's just, I don't know, I think I just want to take a break this year. I'm sure it will be fun but I'm just not feeling it right now." Skylar pouts and bites her apple with a smile on her face.

"You should come," I suggested to Xavier. "It's your senior year Xavier how could you not come?" Xavier shakes his head, "I don't know, I just need some time to think and relax. I'm sure I'll come around." Skylar smiles and takes a bite of her apple. "Just think about it, okay? It'll be fun."

I turn to Skylar "What's his problem?" I whisper into her ear and she shrugs. "Anyways are you two coming to the beach house party?" she asks and I shake my head no. "What why?" she asks. "I don't even know what that is."

Her eyebrows furrow "You didn't hear about the beach house party?" I shake my head "It's a party on the beach. It always occurs on the day after homecoming. How do you not know about this party?"

She sighs, "You need to start paying attention to what's going on around you. Everyone goes to this party, it's the highlight of the year!"I nod, realizing I should have been more aware of what's going on in my social circle.

I need to make a mental note to start paying more attention and not miss out on any more important events.

"Alright I'll be there," I say confidently and Skylar smiles "Glad you are coming" she hugs me. The bell rings "I don't understand why y'all even attend to these things" Xavier gets up and leaves the cafeteria.

"I should check up on him" Skylar gets up and rushes over to Xavier. I got up as well I secretly followed the two of them and watched as Skylar comforted Xavier. I could tell he was trying to keep a strong face, but his eyes were filled with sadness.

I turn around and go to my next class, deciding not to be nosy.

I knew something was wrong, but I didn't want to intervene. I had a feeling that whatever was happening between them, was something private and I didn't want to intrude. I thought it was better to keep my distance and let them figure out whatever it was on their own.

"Hello, Ms. Monet," Mrs. Thomas said placing a book on each desk. "Hello" I walk to the back of the class. I grab my pencil and some paper from my bag.

"I have something very exciting for you" I look at her "What is it?" she smirks "I'll tell you when all of your classmates are here" I nod curiously wondering what it is.

I wait patiently as my classmates fill the room. When everyone is there, she smiles at the class. Mrs. Thomas rarely smiles, so what could this surprise be? I know it's bullshit how she is happy right now.

"Hello class," she says sitting at her desk "So I have a project for you," she says smiling and everyone groans. "Oh come on Mrs. Thomas we need a break plus it's homecoming and the beach party we won't be able to finish this in under a week." a student complains.
