Chapter Five
Group Sparring

(Nobody's Pov!)

Today everyone was rather unhappy. In Miss Ember's class everyone was randomly selected a partner. Each team would spar against another team. Whatever team wins gets a credit awarded to each person on the team. This was a big day for them. This is a big lesson to remember, Teamwork is extremely helpful for a hero. Heroes often work in teams, so if a hero can't adapt and work with a team then they might as well not be a hero.

'This was a difficult test for past students. I hope these ones do better.' Sei Embers thought to herself as she began pairing the students up with their classmates.

Sei randomly picked names from a bowl so she could put teams together. This would for sure make it a mixup.

"Our first team will be Alice and Alcameano!" Sei said.

"Next Madelyn and Raven."

"Dakota and Emily."

"Mary and May."

"Caleb and Liliana."

"Mackenzie and Philip."

"You will be fighting each other in a these smaller arenas that I have set up in here. They do the exact same thing that the time loop arena does. You can either fight to the death or wound them bad enough where they can't fight, but either way they'll come out completely unharmed due to the bubble surrounding your own individual arenas." Sei explained, watching some of the students get nervous. Killing and injuring someone is not always an easy task for heroes, but unfortunately it comes along with becoming a hero.

"Philip and Mackenzie will fight against Dakota and Emily."

"Madelyn and Raven will fight against Mary and May."

"Alice and Alcameano will fight against Caleb and Liliana."

"Is everyone clear on what they have to do?" Sei asked, crossing her arms as she watched the students nod.

"Will we be receiving credits for this? And if so how many?" Maddie asked, her hand raised. Sei smirked and brushed her hair out of her eye.

"The winning team will be receiving 5 whole credits." Sei spoke, as the students gasped.

By the end of the year you needed enough credits to move to the next course of training. If not you'd lose your opportunity to become a hero unless you can pass a backup exam allowing you one more chance to gain enough credits. There's many different ways to earn credits, so most students manage to pass each year. Only a few students have actually failed to become heroes so far, but after all the school does have quite the reputation for sending away misbehaving students or people who don't meet the power requirements.

As the sparring exam began everyone stared at their opponents. Everyone was thinking how could they defeat them? How could they work with their given teammate?

"What's our plan?" Maddie asked, looking over at Raven as their opponents stared them down.

"I'm gonna take you down!" Mary yelled, pointing at Maddie. Maddie raised an eyebrow in confusion. Why did Mary want to take her down?

"I'll be the only person with a flower hero uniform!" Mary said, slashing at Maddie with a thorny vine. Maddie gasped and attempted to step back, but Raven stood next to Maddie, raising her forcefield.

"Thanks, Raven." Maddie said, smiling as Raven only nodded. "Don't worry.. We can do this together." Raven said, looking over her shoulder at Maddie.
