Chapter Forty One
A Hero's Responsibility

(Nobody's Pov!)

Liliana walked into the empty manor her black heels clicking on the dark wooden floors. Liliana dropped her long black coat to the floor as she shut the door behind her. The house was cold and the rain outside tapped against the glass like it was begging to be let in.

Liliana took a deep breath as she walked up the large staircase. Her heels continued clicking as she made her way to the closed door. She slowly grabbed the door handle, hesitating to open it. She opened the door slowly before walking into the office.

She walked forwards, her eyes immediately locking onto the blood that was stained into the wood of the desk. All of her dads belongings and files had already been wrapped up and boxed away. She knew she had to clean up his stuff, but it was the hardest part. She knew she had a lot of responsibilities and things to take care of, but she felt like she couldn't make any progress.

Her dad's entire company was left to her and now she was responsible for running everything. Everything was in Liliana's name. Her father owned many exclusive hero gyms and he has a company that makes and delivers hero equipment to different hero agency's.

She knew that she needed some time off school. She had a lot of things to take care of now that she owned an entire company. She was grateful to the school for everything and the headmaster had helped with the preparations for James's funeral. Liliana was happy that they were helping and she wished she could help them. She pondered it for a moment before walking out of the office. She knew she also wouldn't be there for the upcoming battle or the war.

How could she help? That's when it hit her. She would donate equipment to the school so they could prepare for the war. Brand new high tech training equipment that could help the heroes prepare for the upcoming battle. Even some more security equipment. Liliana wanted to give everything that she could to the school. She didn't know her dad was so afraid of The Phoenix. She wished that she would've been there for him, but she was selfish. She felt the tears pouring down her face as she thought about what a terrible daughter she had been.

If she knew he was so afraid.. maybe she could've helped him. She could've fought alongside her dad and made him proud instead of being a giant spoiled disappointment. She hit her knees, her hands covering her eyes. She had to take care of his company and help the heroes win the war. The Phoenix needed to be stopped before he hurt anyone else. She knew he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger, but her dad was so traumatized by him that he felt he had no choice. The Phoenix had to die.

The headmaster couldn't believe that James Carnation took his own life. She had no idea that he was affected so much by The Phoenix. She knew he stopped being a hero, but for him to do what he did? She felt terrible for even requesting his presence to defend the school.

She couldn't take the stress of this anymore. She had to do something to put an end to all of this suffering. The Phoenix had tormented people for years. He disappeared and it seemed as though an era of peace was beginning, but she was wrong to think that. He was just building a bigger army and creating a bigger plan. What did he want to do though? And why did he want Philip and Mackenzie so bad? The headmaster had to admit that those two were talented, but they both still had a lot to learn.

Especially with Mackenzie being in the condition she's in. She'll be no use to The Phoenix if he actually managed to capture the two of them. The headmaster shook her head and stared down at the papers on her desk. She couldn't let that happen. She couldn't allow him to take more people. He stole her daughter long ago and she failed to do anything about it. She sent so many heroes to their deaths over her daughter. She couldn't get that out of her head. There was one burning question that kept eating at her. Why didn't she go herself? Was she actually afraid to face him? If that's the case how could she send other people to do a job that not even she was willing to do?
