Chapter Twenty Two
The Wife(Nobody's Pov!)
Gabriel sat alone in his room, his mind racing. This whole traitor situation had him so worked up and on edge. He couldn't help, but scratch his arms. This was a terrible nervous habit he started when he was younger. He couldn't stop scratching. He felt the blood slipping down his arms as he stared off at the wall, unmoving.
(Gabriel's Flashback!)
"The traitor! Someone capture her!" A wounded hero shouted. Gabriel rushed through the rubble, heading straight for the traitor. He narrowed his eyes, unsure of her identity, but he knew he was going to capture her and bring her back to be executed for her crimes against the hero society.
The traitor tripped and slammed into the ground roughly, her shoe caught between two large pieces of rubble. Gabriel narrowed his eyes and walked forwards, standing over the traitor. She was staring at the ground, her hands clenched into fists. She snapped her head up to look at him with furious eyes. Gabriel stared in horror as her eyes softened.
"Laura.." Gabriel muttered, staring directly into his wife's emerald green eyes. Her jaw was clenched tightly as she looked up at him. Her eyes were searching for some sort of acceptance on his face, but Gabriel was horrified. Would he kill her? Would he take this time to capture her and turn her in?
"Gabriel." Laura spoke, staring up into his conflicted blue eyes. He stared down at her expecting her to surrender.
"Laura.. Don't do this to us." Gabriel spoke, taking a step away from her. Laura shook her head and struggled to get her foot out. Gabriel just watched as she ripped her foot out of the rubble. She stood up and stared at him, her fists still clenched tightly.
"This hero society is bullshit. They're unfair and only care for the rich powerful people. The Phoenix may be chaotic, but he's giving these snotty heroes what they deserve. You can come with me Gabriel. We can change the world on our own." Laura spoke, taking a step towards her husband.
"Laura, This isn't the way. If you join him you'll be killing innocent people. That's no way to make change." Gabriel said, staring at her with hopeful eyes. Perhaps he could change her mind? Maybe they could stay together.
"No, Gabriel. You don't get to convince me. You make a choice now. You're either my enemy or you're my husband." Laura demanded. She needed an answer. What would Gabriel say? Who was he to her.
"I won't fight you, Laura. Nor will I join your pointless crusade for change. You'll only be apart of the problem joining him. I won't be apart of it." Gabriel said, looking away from Laura.
"So be it. You've made your choice." Laura spoke, sliding her wedding ring off her finger. She dropped it at her feet making Gabriel look back at her.
"You've killed some of our friends, Laura. I want you to remember what you did here today." Gabriel said, falling to his knees. He was hopeless. He couldn't capture her. He couldn't just bring her straight to her death. They would kill her and he couldn't bear that weight.
That's when he looked up from the ground, noticing Laura was gone. He frowned and grabbed the wedding ring off of the cold dirty ground. He allowed a villain to escape his grasp. A villain that killed many of his friends. She was caught and needed to escape so she had no choice, but to fight back. Gabriel clenched his fists and jaw as tears spilled from his eyes.
(Flashback End!)
"I'm surprised Gabriel and Lucinda haven't met us for lunch yet." Sei said, sitting down at the dark oak table. She sat down her tray that had sliced strawberries, a chicken salad and a bag of chips on it. She wanted a very simple lunch today, unlike her friend Duke.
