Chapter Twenty Seven
Internal Conflict(Nobody's POV!)
Mackenzie's eyes shot up as she zipped up from her laying position. Suddenly a brand new scythe appeared in her arms instinctively, her eyes suddenly glowing bright gold. Philip's eyes widened as he stared at Mackenzie who seemed back to full health. Mackenzie suddenly winced as her scythe disappeared, she gripped her side and bent forwards in pain. The freezing sensation creeped up her side covering the rest of her ribs and some of her chest. She looked over her glowing golden eyes fading away and going back to her usual greenish blue ones.
Philip reached a hand out towards her before retreating his arm back to his side. Mackenzie raised an eyebrow at his behavior and tilted her head.
"Are you okay?" Philip asked, staring at her with a worried expression on his face. Mackenzie smiled and stared at Philip.
"I'm fine. I'm just so glad that you're okay." Mackenzie said, her eyes sparkling as she stared at Philip who seemed to be in perfect health. Philip raised an eyebrow in confusion at her words.
"Wait.. what do you mean? You're the one who got hurt." Philip said, his mind foggy. The battle was a big blur to him besides what Caleb had said. He was the one who hurt Mackenzie so why would she care about him?
"Philip, You lost it out there. You were just blank and you were letting off this flame and... and and you weren't fighting back and I.. I.. thought I was going to lose you." Mackenzie stuttered, her eyes watering.
"What happened?" Philip asked, his eyes full of fear and anxiousness. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know about this or not. He wasn't sure if he could handle what he did.
"It's not your fault if that's what you're worried about. I'm the one who ran into fire for you, so don't blame yourself. I can see your guilty expression already." Mackenzie said, staring at Philip with sweet eyes.
"Mackenzie.. I burned you. You're terrified of fire. I put you through so much and I can't forgive myself. I'm just like my father, Mackenzie." Philip said, clenching his fists as he looked down at the ground.
"Philip, I'm not afraid of fire anymore. There are scarier things in the world now." Mackenzie spoke, thinking of the ice growing on her side.
"And I'm not angry with you either. All I wanted was for you to live. You deserve to have a long beautiful life." Mackenzie said, motioning for Philip to get closer. His eyes softened as he slowly inched closer to her. He was nervous as his hands got closer to her body. He felt as if he touched her she would shatter like glass.
"Come here, you big idiot." Mackenzie giggled, pulling Philip into a tight hug. Philip gasped as Mackenzie actually managed to pull him across the floor and almost lifting him up onto her hospital bed.
"I know this is bad timing, but you're actually crushing me a little." Philip said, a flower sprouting from his horn. Mackenzie let go and raised an eyebrow.
"I feel a bit weird.." Mackenzie muttered, looking down at her arms. Her veins were extremely visible and every once and awhile her veins would shine with a random gold light.
"Maybe you're scythe getting destroyed was a good thing. It gave you a power boost, Mackenzie!" Philip said, his eyes shining as he stared at Mackenzie.
"Heh... I guess that's good." Mackenzie giggled, looking over at Philip. That's when it suddenly hit her. Ruby's words before Mackenzie went unconscious..
