Chapter Thirty Seven
Are We Born Evil?(Nobody's Pov!)
Laughter filled the rooms as everyone sat on the ground in a circle. Small cups sat in front of them filled with some sort of fruit juice. Relaxing before battle was rare for these people. Battle was just another part of their daily lives, but this battle would be different. It would be the true fight of their lives. There would be more risk than there had ever been before.
"It's actually nice finally having time to talk to you guys even if you guys aren't talking about anything interesting." Lucas said, leaning back onto his hands as Jade took a sip of her juice.
"I agree about finally being able to talk, but you better watch yourself with that last part, buddy." Jade said, playfully narrowing her eyes at Lucas. Lucas chuckled and shook his head.
"I'm sorry I'm joking I promise. You two have had my back for years. You guys are like family to me despite me being embarrassed to admit it." Lucas said, a small blush appearing on his face as he tried to be open with his emotions. He truly did care about Ruby and Jade, but he wasn't sure how to express it.
"Wow! You're really getting all mushy with us. It's about time you opened up, Lucas." Ruby giggled, smiling widely as Lucas blushed darker. Jade smiled slightly and looked down at her cup.
"It really is about time." Jade said, playfully pushing Lucas's shoulder. "You know until now I don't think we've all ever actually just talked casually. We've bullshitted, but have we ever just really got to know each other?" Lucas asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think we have either." Ruby said, scratching her head as she tried to think about the last time she had a real emotional conversation. Did she ever have any connection to anyone? A real connection?
"Well... why don't we talk to each other? Let's just ask each other questions and get to know each other. If we get closer maybe we'll be able to fight better as a team." Jade said, sipping her juice.
"Okay.. so what should we ask?" Lucas asked, tilting his head to the side. Ruby rubbed her chin trying to think of good questions to ask her friends so they could bond.
"Well... I have a question. Where did you guys come from? Why are you here now and how did you become a villain?" Jade asked, looking at Ruby and Lucas.
"My past is fairly simple. I was rejected when I applied to Chrysanthemum Academy so I was getting bullied by my apparent friends who managed to get into the school. They were always calling me weak and just making feel like shit. That's when the masked destroyer came out of nowhere after I had gotten beat up. He told me that I had the potential to be something greater and that the heroes couldn't see my worth, but he could." Lucas said, thinking back to how the master gave him purpose.
"That's why I've always hated heroes. They always think they're better than others. Not everyone is cut out to be a hero and if you're not then you're rejected by everyone." Jade growled, her thoughts full of hatred and rage for the heroes.
"Simple heroes. They don't understand the potential that can be unlocked with a little bit of training." Ruby said, smirking as she thought of the foolish heroes.
"So what about you Jade?" Lucas asked, waiting for Jade to speak. Jade sighed and shrugged her shoulders.
"I was poor and my parents were sick. We couldn't afford their treatment and they died. I was an orphan and I was bounced from place to place until I met the masked destroyer. He told me that he could give me a better life and I believed him. Ever since I've been here where he's actually kept his promise." Jade said, her eyes glazing over slightly as she remembered her past. She could still see her parents slowly withering away as they succumbed to their illness.
