Chapter Thirty Two
How Far Are You Willing To Go?

(Nobody's Pov)

Mackenzie laid on the hard metal table in tight grey shorts and a tight grey sports bra. Sei hovered her flaming hands over the ice on Mackenzie's skin with determination in her eyes.

Sei had been monitoring Mackenzie's condition ever since she found out about it. Sei couldn't help but lose sleep over this. She tried everything she could think of in order to save Mackenzie. Sei knew she would never convince Mackenzie to stop being a hero so that was out of the question.

Mackenzie could feel her body slowing down and becoming heavier, but she knew she would regret giving up being a hero. Mackenzie had resorted to only using her scythe in times of great peril.

Sei sighs and the flames on her hands disappear as she leans back onto the chair beside Mackenzie. Mackenzie sat up and sighed rubbing her neck as she dangled her legs off the side of the metal table.

"I can't stop it from spreading any farther. I can't even weaken that damn ice." Sei grumbled, her eyes fixated on Mackenzie's frozen body. The ice had spread to Mackenzie's shoulder all the way down her side, across her chest, then all the way to her hip and thigh area.

"Don't worry about it. You know you don't have to keep checking up on me. This is unavoidable." Mackenzie spoke, her facial expression hard to read. Sei couldn't accept just letting Mackenzie ruin her life.

"You're so young and you have so much potential. Why can't you let someone else accomplish your dream for you? I'm sure one of your friends would be happy to do this for you. If they knew what you were going through I know they'd do it for you." Sei said, once again trying to convince Mackenzie to change her mind. Mackenzie narrowed her eyes and gripped the metal table tightly.

"I can't do that. This is something I have to do myself. That man killed my mother and made my father a monster." Mackenzie spoke, her voice calm, but inside she was burning with rage. The Phoenix must die by her hand or she'll never be able to recover from what happened.

"What will you do if you can't get to him before this ice consumes you? You don't even know if you can defeat him in battle. This guy has been a villain in this country for years. He's so powerful that even the hero council ignores his presence." Sei spoke, remembering how many teams of heroes were killed when they were sent in the mission to go kill The Phoenix.

"I won't let that happen." Mackenzie spoke, ignoring the facts of her condition. Sei frowned and stood up from the chair shaking her head in disapproval.

"How far are you willing to go to achieve your dream?" Sei asked, staring directly into Mackenzie's eyes.

"Far." Mackenzie responded, causing Sei to nod.

"You're physical abilities are being weighed down by this ice. The more it spreads the slower you'll become. You need to put thought into the question of if you can defeat The Phoenix." Sei spoke, turning to exit the room. Mackenzie was a stubborn girl which clashed with Sei's stubbornness.

"If.." Mackenzie muttered, that word haunting her mind. Mackenzie couldn't think about If right now. She had to defeat him or everything would have been for nothing. Mackenzie sighed and lowered her head, her mind full of despair and worry.

Sei grumbled and walked down the street, her hands in her coat pockets. Her heels clicked down the street as her brown ponytail swished back and forth. Sei couldn't handle the thought of losing more students. Especially since she knew Mackenzie was basically killing herself.
