I look deeply into his eyes as we both sit on the balcony that's attached to his room. After breakfast and chilling my craving for a cigarette got a little to much. And as if Nick noticed, he told me to follow him and now we're just smoking outside while looking at each other.
"So you're clumsy?" His question makes me freeze with my cigarette halfway up to my mouth.
So your clumsy? That's his question? How do I answer that? Because if I'm honest I'm not very clumsy... I'm a goddamn waiter people. The only times I'm clumsy is when I'm being pushed or hit by Papa.
I take a drag of my cigarette and nod. "Very much."
He looks at my face intensely. His eyes shooting all over it. And it looks as if he's searching for something. But after a few seconds his eyes harden and he nods once.
After being quite for a few minutes I try to make conversation. "So how was your life in Evergreen beach?" With a question. A stupid question. Because what if he doesn't want to talk about that?
He shrugs. "It's a small town. Not much privacy. Only thing we could keep a secret was the races... Growing up I had quite a few friends but I stuck with my original group. Dean, Trevor, Luke, Asher, Jennifer, Zack and later on Lily and Claire joined in too."
"Wow that's alot. Are you guys still friends...? Except for Dean and Trevor of course." I ask killing my cigarette.
He nods. "Yes. Although most of us went our own ways. Lily and Ash are getting engaged soon. Zack and Claire are dating. Jennifer and Luke are married and we came to New York. But we still visit every few months."
I smile. "I don't think I ever had more than two friends really... Well only one since Jason doesn't really count." His jaw clenches and he kills his cigarette too.
"What is Jason then?" His voice is dark and low but I shrug it off. Probably because he's not used to speaking this much.
"Jason is June's twin brother. He's pretty protective. And even though he wants more I only see him as a brother." It's the truth I'll never go further with him.
Nick stands before giving me a hand and pulling me up too. "So he wants more?"
I nod but before we can continue the sliding door opens and June runs out with a big smile. " There you two are! Come on why are you taking so long?."
"June why do you look so happy?" I ask because her over excited face is starting to scare me a bit.
She leans into my ear and whispers so loud I know Nick can hear. "Dean is shirtless agian!"
With a laugh I push her back into Nick's room. And before entering I look back at Nick and grin. "She's like a little simp."
His lips twitch upwards "So is Dean." at his answer I smile with a loud laugh. Then we make our way inside as well.
