"Y/n slow down, you don't even know where you're going" Vernon called out, jogging to catch up to the girl at the front of the group. She stopped walking when Vernon placed his hand on her shoulder. She looked around embarrassed, realising that she indeed didn't know where she was going or where she was in general.

There were a few tall office buildings around them with glass windows covering the outer exterior of them.
"We haven't been here before so we might as well explore and mark the area on the map" Jihoon said as he took the lead, entering one of the buildings.

It was dark inside, only the natural sunlight that shone through the cracks in the windows creating some sort of illumination in the room. They hesitantly stepped further into the room, careful not to tread on any of the broken glass that littered the floor.

They all turned their heads when they heard footsteps approaching them. A zombie had emerged from an unlit part of the first floor. It was snarling and thrashing it's arms around but didn't look as though it was trying to attack them. It was facing them yet it didn't seem like it knew they were there.

Seokmin was standing at the back of the group watching the zombie when he felt a tingling sensation in his nose. He tried to shake away the feeling but ultimately couldn't. He sneezed and caught the attention of the zombie. It took a few steps towards the group and looked clearly agitated. Soonyoung immediately stepped in front of Y/n and used his arm to keep her behind his back, his eyes trained on the zombie in front of him. Jihoon looked back at Seokmin and sent him a look that could kill. The latter gave a knowing and apologetic look back as he mouthed "sorry".

"I don't think it can see.." Seungcheol declared as he approached the zombie, not receiving a reaction from it as he got closer.
"Seungcheol.." Soonyoung warned as he watched the older male bend down and pick up a shard of broken glass. He looked back at Soonyoung before he threw the glass to the other side of the room, causing the zombie to quickly turn around and run to the direction the sound came from.
"See? it's blind" he said causing Soonyoung to roll his eyes.
"We should still be careful, there'll probably be more of them throughout the rest of the building" Jihoon stated as he walked over to the zombie and stabbed it through the back of the head like it was nothing.

Soonyoung sighed and looked behind him to see Y/n quietly watching everything, her hand clasped tightly around his arm. She looked up when she felt his eyes on her and quickly detached her hand from his arm, a light blush tinting her cheeks. She cleared her throat and followed Jihoon and Mingyu who were now exploring another room.

He quietly watched as she walked away from him. They hadn't talked much the past few weeks and over that time he felt Y/n was growing more distant. Of course, under the recent circumstances he could understand why but he missed her. Sure, he hadn't know her for that long, only a few months, but he knew she was someone special to him and someone he wanted to protect.

The group had split up and were exploring different rooms and floors of the building. There were a few zombies that they needed to take care of but apart from that the building was empty.

Y/n had split off with Soonyoung and was quietly looking around an office with the white haired male. Soonyoung kept taking small glances at her as she lazily searched through shelves and drawers.
"Hey Y/n?" he asked, wanting to get her attention. She didn't look over at him but hummed in reply, suggesting for him to continue talking.
"You know you can talk to me right?" he said.
"That's random but I know that..." she mumbled.
"I know you've been having a hard time lately and I just-"
"Soonyoung I'm fine" she interrupted, knowing where this conversation was going. She left the cabin to try and distract herself so she didn't want to talk about what she was trying to distract herself from in the first place.

"You're not fine, you haven't been eating and you've been shutting yourself away in that room all day" he said. She dropped her head and sighed, taking a seat on top of the desk in the middle of the room. Soonyoung made his way over to her and leant on the desk next to her.
"I'm scared... I don't know what to do anymore, everyday just seems to get worse and I just can't do it anymore" she paused, her voice cracking as tears welled in her eyes. Soonyoung listened silently.
"It's not fair that we have to fight to stay alive everyday and no matter how much we try we still might die....first it was Wonwoo and then Joshua and I can't help but wonder who's going to be next and I know that's horrible to say but i'm so scared Soonyoung" she looked at the boy next to her with tears falling from her eyes.

He immediately lifted his hand and wiped the tears off her face with his thumb, leaving his hand to cup her cheek. His eyes were soft as they searched hers.
"and it hurts that Seungcheol is pushing me away, Joshua was my friend too and it just feels like everything is falling apart...." she choked out. Soonyoung's heart ached at the sight of the girl crying in front of him. He could tell how much pain she was in from the expression on her face and the emotion in her eyes. He stood up and pulled her up with him, wrapping his arms around her in an embrace. He held her tightly as she cried into his shoulder, tears prickling at his own eyes.

He pulled away from her slightly so he could look at her face. He brushed her hair away from her face,
"We'll be okay I promise, we'll survive this and make it out okay? we can build a new life and be happy" he said as a tear slipped past his own eyes. Y/n looked up at him and nodded, her eyes red and her face damp. Soonyoung cupped her face again with both of his hands and rested his forehead against hers,
"i promise" he whispered.
