🧪Fifty eight🦠

The young girl clung onto her fathers arm and hid herself behind him as they walked with the group. She glanced around curiously at the new people around her, seeming to be more wary of the males than she was of Y/n. The dad also seemed to be a bit reserved and awkward, staying silent as he observed everyone around him.

"how have you guys managed to survive this long on your own? Seokmin asked, genuinely surprised that someone that young was still alive, let alone fairly healthy. Well, as healthy as anyone could be considering the circumstances.

The father looked hesitant to reply, a downcast look painting over his face.
"we weren't always alone.." he eventually said.
"her mother, my wife, was with us when this all started but she was taken from us" he said dismally. Everyone who was listening, gave the man an empathetic look.
"we had run into a few men and they said that they would keep us safe and provide us with shelter, we were so desperate that we didn't think twice about it and decided to trust them, we were so stupid to trust them. At first they treated us well, probably to trick us into a false sense of security but it worked. Then they started bringing back zombies on leashes and keeping them as pets or some sort of deranged experiment" he paused, trying to collect his thoughts while also trying to suppress his rising anger.

Y/n's breath hitched and she looked over at Soonyoung with wide eyes when she heard him mention the men with the zombies on leashes. They were like a disease that kept coming back. She felt like it was impossible to rid her mind of them, to rid her mind of that day. She felt her mind start to spiral again but tried her best to stay focused on the man's story.

"They started bringing back normal people like us and were using them to test their stupid experiment on, they were trying to create some sort of a cure or a way to become immune to the virus. They would force them into a room with a zombie until they got bit and would inject them with some sort of substance, sometimes it would kill the person straight away or other times it would do nothing and they would wait until they turned. They were insane. They made us watch...they made us watch as they killed my wife. There was a night where they left us alone and we were able to escape but it hasn't been the same since. It's so hard to look after her without her mother around." he said, his eyes glistening with tears, clenching his jaw to try and keep them from falling. 

"I don't know if they ever got that stupid cure to work. They always went on and on about this girl that they claim they saw got bit and apparently she never turned so they wanted to find her to use her blood or something for the cure but we escaped before they ever found her." he finished, leaving everyone speechless. It was a lot to process and no one knew what to do or say, especially Y/n, her throat going dry and her hands becoming clammy.

"I- I'm sorry for your loss, we've also lost people very close to us, it's hard and it feels like it never gets easier without them.." Y/n said, her words sincere. She often thought about her parents and if they were out there somewhere, alive and waiting for their children to come back to them. Probably not.

Suddenly, a zombie came running towards them from the trees near by. It ran closest to the father and his daughter. The young girl held tightly onto her dad and started screaming as it swiftly approached her. He tried to pull her away but it grabbed onto her long hair and pulled her to the ground. Mingyu, who was the closet to them, quickly pulled out his gun and shot it in the head. Y/n rushed over to the little girl and helped her up to her feet and wiped her tears away as she cried heavily, clinging onto Y/n's shirt as she buried her face into her chest.

"shh it's okay, you're alright, everything's alright" she hushed softly, cradling the young girls head. She didn't know what came over her, she just felt the need to protect the little girl. She ran her hands through her long hair and sighed,
"Let's do something with this hair of yours hmm?" she said.

I'm sorry this chapter is so bad and it took a while for me to post!!!!
I was sick the last few days and have been busy with work so i haven't had the time to write ;(

but good news: there's a guy from my gym that i've had a crush on for a while and he came up to me today and got my number and said he wanted to hang out so i'm very happy hrbfhebbfhe🤧 that's totally unrelated to the book but i just wanted to share that lol and he's so gorgeous it's not even funny like 🥹
