" To be your friend was all I ever wanted; to be your lover was all I ever dreamed."
- Valerie LombardoNarnia, 1001
Nobody had an idea of what Mr Tumnus was preparing.
Lucy had sought the faun during the afternoon, but he refused to tell her anything, trying to keep it a surprise. He had only told the girl for them to wear gowns and be preppy as if they were going to an actual ballroom.
Susan, Lucy and Olivia gathered in the dressing room, which was a large room filled with the most beautiful gowns and made for the Queens to get ready, with Mrs Beaver, Bellie the Faun, and Piple the Badger awaiting them there.
It had been a fantastic afternoon, filled with laughter and joking, until the three girls were eventually ready, in beautiful dresses and flowers in their hair.
Olivia wore a stunning dark blue dress, its colour purposely fading as it reached the bottom until turning white. Encrusted with fake golden leaves, her gown gave her the air of a true royal, the flowers in her hair in the same gold tone of the artificial leaves.
Together with the three Narnians, they joined a group of six and walked to the ballroom, arms entangled and chuckling freely. They reached the ballroom of Cair Paravel, where two minotaurs staying guard awaited them.
The two minotaurs bowed and opened the tall doors to the ballroom. The three Narnians entered first, going down the white stairs and out of the girls' sight.
Olivia poked one of the minotaurs. " Hm, do you know if we are to be announced or- " The loud sound of two trumpets cut Olivia's sentence, answering her question. The minotaur chuckled, and the girl thanked him.
Moving to stand in between the two sisters, they moved their hands to their sides and went forward. At the end of the staircase, two very handsome-looking Kings and an excited faun awaited. It was at that moment Olivia saw how much Edmund had grown in only one year; the boy had a growth spurt and was becoming more mature by the day.
When the girls reached the bottom, Mr Tumnus giggled. " Welcome to the second part of our lesson! " He exclaimed, moving towards the crew of Narnians also present in the room, which was the Beavers, Piple, Bellie, and a cheetah Olivia recognised as Fire.
" Now, the second part of our lesson today is: ball etiquette. " Mrs Beaver told them. " Which, you have already started in the wrong manner. "
" How?? We barely started! " Lucy asked.
" Not you, ladies. Edmund, Peter, you both need to go and await the girls by the middle of the staircase when the trumpet sounds. " Mrs Beaver said. " That is, if you're not entering with them. "
" Should we enter again? " Susan asked, and the faun and Beaver nodded.
The ladies went back up the stairs and repeated the process once again. The trumpets sounded, and the two Kings hurried to the middle of the staircase. The doors opened, and the girls walked inside the ballroom again, this time with Olivia on the right and Susan in the middle.
