"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough."
- Mae WestNarnia, 2315
Olivia forgot the amount of rocks and cliffs there were in the Western Woods.
As the dwarf took the lead, he had said they had to walk for an hour before reaching the ford near Beruna. But they had accepted it, and so, followed him.
But, as they walked, the woods would get more silent, as if they called them in the opposite direction. It made Olivia inclined to simply move and go where the sounds of the Narnians and the forest came from. But Edmund had pulled her along, and his grip was iron, despite not hurting her wrist.
They reached a spot filled with trees, trees so high one could barely see their end, looking as if they touched the sky and greeted the clouds. Maybe that was what they did. Trees could be very devious and confusing indeed.
To her right, a rustling sound of leaves on the ground caught Lucy's and Olivia's attention. The orange leaves of autumn swirled in the wind, like a whirl.
Edmund and the others stopped in their tracks, too, as they saw the amount of leaves moving until they formed a corporal shape. A dryad of the trees, Olivia realised.
Olivia waved quaintly, but the dryad seemed in pain. She ( for dryads and nymphs were always female ) yelled out in pain, and the grunt of a man came from it. Her leaves suddenly dispersed in an explosion and fell to the ground sadly.
They watched in pain as the realisation struck; they had just witnessed the death of a dryad, which meant someone had cut down her tree. Olivia whimpered, and Edmund passed his arm around her shoulders.
But her sadness was cut short by strange sounds—those of chopping wood, axes, and grunts that likely came from grown and adult men.
The shouting only became louder as they stepped forward. Susan stopped walking and moved her head.
" Maybe we should head back. " She murmured. " We do not know what awaits us there. "
Olivia grabbed her dagger. " I will know now. " She and Edmund shared a fierce nod, looking at the beyond. Their minds worked with ease in synchrony.
His hand went to the hilt of his sword as Edmund moved behind a tree trunk, and Olivia moved to another. They caught clear sight of the scenario: the men in armour and mail shirts holding axes and the trees falling to the ground.
She moved her fingers to the top of four tree trunks on the ground, stacked and gave them a good place to hide.
Hundreds of men occupied the sand, yelling commands and building a bridge to cross the river. Apparently, not only the Kings and Queens of old hoped to cross the ford.
Peter and Olivia were quick to make their analysis and to come up with different possibilities for the reason why the Telmarines wanted to cross. The predominant one, and the worst of them all, was that the Telmarines wanted to find Aslan's how as well and knew the Narnians would be there.
