"Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears."
-John LennonNarnia, 2315
Walking was pleasant, but tiring.
Olivia hated and loved walking; the cane didn't help with the positive point of view. She had just finished explaining the entire 'Protector' thing to the Pevensies, which had been awful and weird and confusing.
But, at least it was nice to talk to Edmund without interruptions. Despite being married and together for a long time now, someone or somebody always seemed to interrupt them. It was either an angry Calormene or an oblivious Peter every single time.
And this time could not be any different. As Olivia laughed at a sarcastic comment that Edmund made about the way Caspian was staring at Susan like a lost puppy, Peter walked to them and got in the middle, throwing his arms over each of their shoulders.
Olivia gave him a questioning look. Peter was smiling from ear to ear. "You're in an awfully good mood."
"I'm in Narnia." He said proudly. "And I am very excited to challenge Caspian to a duel and make him lose."
"Well, you're about to lose Susan to him." Edmund said with a grin, making Olivia snort.
"What in the heavens do you mean?" Peter asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Take a look." Olivia pointed at the Telmarine, who was now walking side-by-side with Susan, showing her a sword that she looked at with a silly smile.
The High King immediately turned red and began walking towards the couple, grabbing Susan's arm and pulling her away from Caspian. Olivia swore she could hear him say something along the lines of "Him? Seriously? The Telmarine boy with the mop hair?"
Edmund and Olivia burst out laughing, watching as Caspian sent Trufflehunter the Badger a confused look, and Peter glared daggers at him from over Susan's shoulder. It was going to be a fun adventure.
Lucy eventually caught up to her brother and began to talk to him about something happening in the math team, a matter from their world, and Olivia moved to Caspian's side. He barely noticed her presence until the Warrior Queen purposely stepped and snapped a branch on the ground.
Caspian looked at her, startled. Olivia bit the inside of her cheeks. "You need better reflexes." She pointed out. "Seriously. How did you not notice my presence?"
"Uh– I was distracted." He replied nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well, undistract yourself. If I'm going to be your protector and all that, you've got to learn the basics." She told him. "Lucky for you, I am an excellent Warrior. It's in the title."
"When I am not distracted, I excel at fighting." Caspian defended himself, puffing his chest.
"Nikabrik and Trufflehunter told me about you being bested by Reepicheep and how you managed to hit your head in a tree while riding a horse. And you've only met them two nights ago."
