Chapter: 34

Jiang Cheng had received a letter from Sect Leader Jin asking for his presence in a meeting that was called to discuss matters about Wei Ying. He had discussed it with his mother and Wei (Y/n). His mother was angry at first but when Wei (Y/n) told her that these were the same people that had helped to save Jiang Cheng, Jiang Yanli, and Wei Ying when Lotus Pier was attacked, the older woman calmed down.

Madame Yu picked up her teacup and took a sip. "Then I go with you." She said sternly and Jiang Cheng was about to disagree when she looked at him sharply. "I know they will pull some strings. I am very close to Madame Jin but I know Jin Guangshan. He will do everything to have what he wants, in this case, the Stygian Amulet. If I am not there they will try to manipulate you." She sighed explaining and Wei (Y/n) nodded.

"I agree. The last time he tried using you as a leverage against Wei Ying and no doubt he'll try to do it again." She said and Jiang Cheng nodded. "I understand." He said and both the females nodded. "Where is A-Fen?" Jiang Cheng asked after a while and Wei (Y/n) laughed lightly. "Cooking with her Auntie." She said and Jiang Cheng smiled a little shaking his head before excusing himself.

When he left Madame Yu turned to Wei (Y/n) "How is everything going between you and Sect Leader Lan?" She asked raising a brow and the younger girl blushed fiddling with the bracelet on her wrist, "Everything is well." Madame Yu looked at her wrist and smiled taking a sip of her tea. "Did he give you that?" She asked smiling and she looked away to hide her red cheeks and nodded. "I'll go to check on A-Fen." She mumbled quickly and left making Madame Yu laugh at her behavior.

The three of them entered the Peagent Hall. Jiang Cheng was in the middle and Madame Yu and Wei (Y/n) were on both sides behind him. This was the first time Madame Yu had come out of Lotus Pier after it was restored back. Jin Guangshan raised an eyebrow and frowned a bit. Now that The Violet Spider herself had made an appearance it would be challenging to play Jiang Cheng. Not that it was easy when Wei (Y/n) was beside him. 

After exchanging greetings with Nie Mingjue, and the three Lans all of them took seats. Jiang Cheng and Madame Yu sat in the first row, alongside Lan Xichen, Lan Qiren, and Nie Mingjue. Wei (Y/n) sat behind Madame Yu and was next to Lan Wangji who sat behind his brother. 

Even before the meeting started whispers lifted in the hall from various sect Leaders and disciples. They were talking about the appearance of Madame Yu and Elder Lan.

"Even that seclusive old predecessor Lan comes." Clan Leader Yao whispered to the Clan Leader beside him and he nodded. "The famed Violet spider makes her appearance too. This is getting serious." He whispered back and Clan Leader Yao nodded with a frown. "I knew things would turn out in this way." He said and the other Clan Leader nodded and glanced around before saying, "Let's see how it ends."

Wei (Y/n) paid the whispers no mind and turned lightly to face Lan Wangji who sat next to her. Both of them seemed to be having a conversation with their eyes. When Lan Wangji averted his eyes and shook his head Wei (Y/n) frowned. It was as she feared, her brother would do everything by himself. She looked at the Peacock father- Jin Guangshan as he began to speak.

"Guangyao, you tell all clan leaders here, what Wei Wuxian did!" He said leaning on the armrest and gesturing to Jin Guangyao who nodded and began.

"This time, in the Qiongqi Road, Wei Wuxian made Wen Ning into a puppet who killed a lot of people. There are four overseers killed, and about fifty remnants of Wen clan fled. Having led them into the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian took the Demon-Subdue Palace of Xue Chonghai and set many barriers at the mountain foot. Our people can't step into the region." Jin Guangyao explained and whispers started again. Wei (Y/n)'s eyebrows furrowed. Even if her brother was impulsive he wouldn't dare kill mercilessly without a reason. But it wasn't Jin Sect if they didn't overdo everything.

"He's really making big trouble this time." Madame Yu said through gritted teeth and Wei (Y/n) looked at her with furrowed eyebrows. What if she turned her back on Wei Ying?  Madame Yu probably sensing her discomfort looked over her shoulder with a smile assuring her. Jiang Cheng sighed frowning and stood up going in the centre. He joined his hands and saluted lightly."On this matter, his method was nowhere near proper. I apologize on behalf of him to the Jin Sect of Lanling. If there is any remedy, please tell me directly. I will try my best to do it." He said and straightened up.

"Sect Leader Jiang Cheng, for your sake, I shouldn't speak too much on this. Yet, these overseers are not only from our Jin Sect but some from the other clans. Right?" Jin Guangshan questioned looking at Clan Leader Yao and he nodded. "Yes. Wei Ying also killed people in our clan!" He replied and the clan leader next to him nodded. "Right!" "Although Sect Leader Jin is so generous that he may let it pass, we can't." Clan Leader Yao said looking at Jiang Cheng. Madame Yu scoffed and picked up the cup of tea taking a sip from it.

"My friends, you may not know that Wen's cultivator whom Wei Wuxian wanted to save that day is called Wen Ning. He and his sister Wen Qing helped us a lot in Sunshot Campaign. Hence--"Jiang Cheng started to explain Wei Ying's reasons but was cut off by Nie Mingjue. "What do you mean they helped you? Wen Sect of Qishan, aren't they the murderers who massacred your Jiang Sect?" He questioned raising a brow at Jiang Cheng and this time Madame Yu answered. "Yes. Wen Clan did try to massacre our Jiang Clan. But those who have, are already punished. The one's my son speaks of and my nephew saved aren't involved in that." Madame Yu said looking at him and Lan Xichen nodded along agreeing with what the older woman said.

"I know a few things about Wen Qing and her brother. They came to the lecture in Lan clan before. Their temperament is indeed distinct from the others of the Wen clan. Although I haven't met them again, they didn't kill or assist in killing anyone in Sunshot Campaign." Lan Xichen explained and Lan Qiren nodded to his nephew's words. "Neither did they participate in nor did they stop the others. They seem to be trusted fellows beside Wen Ruohan." Nie Mingjue said while he scoffed and Wei (Y/n) who was silent spoke up. "Even though Wen Qing is his trusted fellow, how could she be capable of stopping him?" She asked and Nie Mingjue expressed his thoughts which didn't seem to impress the young Wei. Jiang Cheng took his seat as Nie Mingjue began to talk again.

"Since they were silent and didn't stop him when the Wen clan committed their crimes, they can be thought of as cold watchers. How can they enjoy the favor when the Wen clan was in power, but bear no burden and pay no price when the Wen clan collapsed?" He asked in return and Clan Leader Yao was the first to agree. "What Sect Leader Nie said is right! Since Wen Qing was a trusted fellow besides Wen Ruohan, if people say that she didn't participate in the whole case, I won't buy it. None of the Wen clan is clear of some murders." He said loudly provoking other sect leaders who sat alongside him.

"Agreed! These underlings of the Wen clan aren't allowed to survive! Helping the Wen clan is to be an enemy against us." Sect leader of Baling Ouyang sect said this time and they agreed "Yes! Right!"

"How can you say that you have only ever killed those who deserved it? Can you say that you haven't ever taken a single innocent life?" Wei (Y/n) questioned coldly and they were silenced immediately But she continued. "How can you prove that? If I were to say you destroyed many families by taking innocent lives, could you all prove your innocence?" She glared at them and no one dared to make a sound.

​​​​​​"Hexia-zun says it wrongly. Maybe your sense of judgment is clouded by the affection for your brother." Jin Guangshan said and Wei (Y/n) gritted her teeth glaring at him. Jin Guangshan then turned to Jiang Cheng. "Sect Leader Jiang, since this should be your family affair, I'm not supposed to say these words, but as for Wei Ying, I have to remind you." He said and Jiang Cheng forced out a "Please." He was now very angry at him for the words he used for Wei (Y/n).

"Wei Ying is your trusted assistant. He is important to you. We all know that. But on the contrary, it's hard to say, whether he respects you as a Sect leader. Being a Sect leader for so many years myself, I haven't seen any subordinate that can be so proud and self-centered before his master. Do you know how outside people comment on that? In Sunshot Campaign, all your achievements today were made by Wei Wuxian alone. Isn't it ridiculous?" He questioned and Madame Yu slammed the cup on the table her eyebrow twitching.

"Are you perhaps saying that my son is not capable to be a Sect Leader? That the efforts of him and Wei (Y/n) were nothing? Wei Ying was and is the head disciple of Yunmeng Jiang. Not only that he is a sworn brother to Jiang Cheng! You say our sense of judgment is clouded by affection, How can you say surely yours isn't clouded by greed?" She said angrily and all eyes turned to her. The Violet Spider was indeed very frightening when she was angry.
