Cordelia's P.O.V.
"No, I haven't got anything in the mail yet."
I answer Baela nervously into our phone call while walking through campus after attending all my classes for the day. She left campus an hour ago, but I'm just now getting out because one of my professors kept going on and on about an upcoming book the class needs to read. Aemond should be waiting for me right now in the parking lot to pick me up from campus today.
"I can hear you worrying. Stop it." Baela snaps firmly to me through my phone. "The letter is going to come any day now, and your name is going to be in the top ten."
"Yeah... But what if it isn't?" I sigh as I step into the parking lot on campus and search for a specific black, sleek car. "I don't like getting my hopes up for things like this, Baela. These kinds of things seem to always find a way not to work out for me-"
"No. None of that, Cordelia." Baela declares full of sass and I can practically feel her scolding me through our call. "Rhaena and I loved your poem... Hell, the entire baseball team read all of it. Actually read it out of their own free will. That's how you know it's good."
I snort at her statement before grinning and biting at my bottom lip to hold back a remark about the Andals baseball team reading my work. Jace gave my poem that I entered into the contest to everyone on his and Daeron's team a few days ago without my consent. For the past few days, boys from their team have been coming up to me between classes, complimenting my work and asking for me to write something about their oh so perfect baseball team.
I wouldn't say I'm close with the Andals baseball team, but at times I feel like it because of how welcoming they are to me. Whenever I'm around during practice because of Daeron, the guys talk me into playing with them, and whenever I see the players on campus, they chat with me like I'm a little sister of theirs. Sometimes, when I go to eat lunch and can't find the Targaryen brothers or Velaryon sisters, some of the team members will holler at me to sit with them.
... Have I become the little sister of the baseball team?
The thought makes me let out a faint laugh as I walk through the parking lot with my phone to my ear. Walking past a few cars, I catch Criston and his lady friend talking beside his silver mustang. When our eyes meet through the parking lot, I smile at him brightly and wave a silent hello, making him smirk and give me a flirtatious wave back.
"Just because the team likes it doesn't mean it's good." I point out to Baela on the call just as Criston nods his head in a certain direction. Knowing he's pointing me towards Aemond's spot in the parking lot, I give him a thumbs up and keep walking while adding to my friend on the phone. "It just means they like me enough to read it."
"Would you tell her to stop doubting herself?" I suddenly hear Rhaena's voice through the phone call, making me giggle at hearing her attitude. "I hate it when she does that."
Shaking my head when I hear the sisters now fighting about how to handle me and my doubts, I find the extravagant black car I'm searching for in the parking lot, along with its sexy bad boy driver. Smiling when I see Aemond standing around waiting for me, I pick up my pace to him and wave my hand dramatically to get his attention. When Aemond sees me basically skipping towards him, he flashes me a grin and pulls out something from behind his back.
My double dimple smile stays glued onto my face even as my mouth hangs open from seeing what he's holding for me. Instead of holding his usual cigarette in his hand, Aemond is waiting for me while holding a bouquet of flowers. He looks ridiculous in his completely black attire as he holds a bouquet of bright yellow, orange, and red flowers.
