"It's your fault!"
"How is it my fault?"
"He's your brother!"
"I didn't give birth to him!"
That was Charlie and Asher talking or more like arguing on the phone. They could have done this yesterday already because that was when she had fought with Fabian but she had been so tired after coming home that she had immediately fallen asleep.
In the morning she had quickly talked with her parents and Aurora who had stayed the night there before going to work and getting her daughter from the daycare.
That was why this conversation had to wait until tonight. In the past, she would have swallowed her sorrow with a drink or two but that wasn't an option for obvious reasons so she decided that complaining to Asher about his older brother was the second best option.
Even after an hour, she was still having a hard time progressing how rudely Fabian had behaved at the bar. Who gave him a right to tell her what she should and shouldn't do? He wasn't her father or boyfriend, not that they would have any right to do that either.
What had he said? Something about how he shouldn't be at the bar pregnant? Did he think that she was getting drunk there and risking her baby's life or what the hell was his problem? An even better question was why did he care what she did in her free time.
Every time they had met Fabian had only glared at her as if she was the reason for all of his problems. Well, with a couple of exceptions such as when he had come to help her out after her car broke or when he came to help with Aurora's wallpaper.
It was obvious that Asher had forced him to do both things, though, so Fabian hadn't helped because he wanted to but because he had to. She had learned over the years that there was a big difference.
If it was Asher saying the same things then while it would have still annoyed her, Charlie would have reacted much differently. That was because they were friends and Asher was worried about her from time to time because of her being alone and pregnant. Even when he was overwhelming and overreacting she knew that Asher only had good intentions.
The same couldn't be said about Fabian and that was why she had gotten so angry at the bar. There was no reason why she should even consider that he had said all of that because he cared about her or was worried.
That meant that he did it because he was an asshole and that he just had to put his large nose - okay, it wasn't a large but a pretty nice nose but she couldn't admit it now - into other people's business.
"Wow, you're a genius! But seriously, it's your fault because you introduced us and now he thinks that he can say whatever he wants to me," Charlie explained the logic while folding Aurora's old baby clothes to the table where she would eventually put them into the cabinets.
"Okay, let me just go back in time and stop my aunt from giving birth," Asher joked. While listening to him say something else, Charlie wasn't paying much attention anymore.
No, she kept staring at the clothes that she had put on Aurora on the day they had gotten out of the hospital and couldn't believe how fast time had gone by and how bittersweet it was that Aurora had grown so much and that soon her sister would wear this.
She certainly hadn't thought that it would happen this soon and without Mason but here she was, a pregnant single mother at twenty-three recycling her firstborn's clothes. This wasn't what she had in mind in college but even though their life was anything but simple, she couldn't say that she regretted anything.
In a way, she was grateful even for Mason who turned out to be a huge disappointment but he had given her two children, two little girls who she would die for.
