"I'm sorry but I'm not... I just like you so much and my heart hurts when I see you struggle. Did you hear that? My heart hurts! And I wanted to help you because you needed it and sometimes you have to accept it..."

Then she heard Asher saying something either to her or Fabian before starting to giggle very loudly, just as drunk. There was a lot of voice in the background, music and talking from other people which made her realize that the two men were out drinking.

Great, she got the wise Fabian Murphy drunk. That was an achievement too, right? Charlie was the evil, heartless girl who broke his heart and got him to drink with his brother who, knowing Asher, was probably more than glad to join him.

This wasn't her intention after finding out what he had done but in that moment, she hadn't been able to think about anything else but what a poor mother she was.

Not only was she unable to take care of Juliet well enough so that she could stay inside her much longer and develop in time but after her body forced her to come out, she hadn't even been able to pay for her hospital bills.

Instead, her friend slash kind-of-boyfriend slash kissing buddy - jesus, she needed some kind of label to their relationship - came to rescue the poor girl who needed saving all the time. Hell, couldn't even pay for the hospital bills without a fight with the insurance company!

Yes, they were expensive as hell but they were still her bills, not Fabian's no matter how much money he had. When he confessed what he had done, Charlie had seen red and only saw how it should have been her who took care of her little family.

Because she had done that once before, depended on a man. Where did that leave her? A good-for-nothing babydaddy who only ran away and left her all alone to take care of two children.

In the past, that was all that Mason had done. Paying bills, earning money for them. Taking care of the the finances. That's all. Charlie, however, had taken care of their daughter while cleaning and cooking and shopping and going to the doctor appointments all alone and pretty much everything else.

She knew that Fabian wasn't Mason and that he had proved to be a much better human being than he ever was. Still, at that moment, she couldn't help but notice the similarities between two men who thought that money solved everything and that both thought that she couldn't do anything on her own.

"Give the girls kisses from me, I miss them..." Fabian slurred again before burping not only once or twice but thrice. Hearing that, she couldn't help but giggle because this was yet another side she hadn't seen from him. A drunk one where he seemed to forget manners and say whatever came to his mind.

"You just saw them four hours ago," Charlie explained before frowning in worry. "And why are you drinking at 3pm? You know what, forget that. I know Ash has something to do with it."

"He told me that I was wrong," Fabian told her with many drunk, slurred words. "That I should have asked for your permission before paying the bills. But why do you need permission before helping someone? And not just anyone but a woman I love... That doesn't make sense, Lottie!"

While he explained once again how unfair this was for him, Charlie stopped listening because something much more important caught her attention.

One, four-letter word. He couldn't have said that, right? No way. She had probably just misheard him and he had only said like and it had only sounded a lot like that word because of how drunk he was. Because if Fabian had really said it then... What? What would she do?

"But next time I'll ask your permission, okay? If that's what it takes for you to forgive me then I'll do it," Fabian mumbled, making Asher laugh again.
