What the hell was she doing?
Because Charlie had been very grateful for him helping them out, she wanted to show it because he was wasting his time on them. That didn't mean that she should invite Fabian Murphy of all people to their home.
All she wanted to do was give something back as a thank you but even to her own ears, that sounded a lot like
a date which was the last thing on her mind. But now that she thought about it, Charlie couldn't hear anything else.God, hopefully Fabian didn't take it that way because now that they had finally started to get somehow close, maybe, and they were somehow almost even friends. Now Fabian didn't even glare at her every time they met and she didn't want it to disappear.
Because honestly? She kind of liked it. The back-and-forth texting, his way to show concern for her and even Aurora through the messages and how it felt to be cared about.
She had felt a little less lonely which sounded almost pathetic because technically, all they had done was send a few messages without even meeting each other. Yes, she had her parents and friends with Asher being the best of the best but Charlie still waited for the new messages from Fabian.
Were they friends? She liked to think so which was crazy to think about because the first time they had met he had been a serious, judgemental asshole who had looked at her as if she was nothing but trash in his shoes, if even that.
Now she had changed her opinion, though. Although he was still serious, which was only his personality, and perhaps still a little bit judgemental but the difference was that now she knew that there were more in him.
With what she had seen with her own eyes and what she had heard from Asher, she knew that while he was all of that and probably hated people with passion, Fabian had his own way of showing love to those few people he cared about.
A heartless monster wouldn't ask if her daughter had slept enough or if she was alright after morning sickness.
"What?" He was frowning, not looking excited or even happy to agree. Oh god, now she made this weird after how easily their relationship changed to... text buddies.
"Nothing," she quickly mumbled before realizing that this wasn't a good way to say thank you. Taking a deep breath, she smiled and added, "Want to come inside for a coffee as a thank you?"
For a while, he did nothing but stare at her from head to toe before turning to her toddler as if to say really? With you two? Why?
"I mean, I get that you have things to do and your fiancé so you can say no. I just feel bad for making you do this again," Charlie mumbled, frowning at how she was almost stuttering nervously because of some man who was engaged to be married. She wasn't an awkward person so what was going on?
Great, as if she didn't have anything else to worry about such as being a new single Mom, raising her girls all alone, the well-being of her unborn child, and even small things like cleaning and sleeping enough without throwing up.
"Thanks for the offer but I can't stay. You take care of yourselves, okay?" She wasn't surprised that he rejected her offer because aside from her gratitude, there was no reason for the two of them to spend any time together.
Hell, they barely even knew each other. Now that she thought about it, all she knew about him was that he was the oldest child, basically lived at work, and that he was getting married this summer.
Oh, and that he was very handsome, not that she had paid any attention to that. Now she felt guilty for having these kinds of thoughts about a fiancé of other woman. That didn't change the fact that he was handsome, though. And sexy. So damn sexy.
