"Help me!"
Ignoring his brother yelling on the phone, Fabian continued working in his office while wondering how angry Asher would be if he just hung up.
Although he was very protective of his brothers, he had learned over the years how much their voices changed when it was a real emergency compared to their version of an emergency.
Right now it sounded a lot like the latter which was why he didn't even bother asking what was wrong because he had much more important things to worry about.
His phone had been ringing almost non-stop by his employees and he had had to drive all the way to one of their hotels to solve problems which he did very rarely unless it was absolutely necessary.
His CFEO stealing art worth two hundred thousand dollars was worth a visit which obviously led to a call to the police.
The forty-two years old man was hired by Fabian himself last year. The last CFEO, who had worked for his father for twenty years, had left the company on the same day as his father did, not wanting to work for an inexperienced child like him.
Fabian had ignored that and hired the very best replacement he could find as fast as possible. That was clearly a mistake because it took him only a year to show that he was still, after all, a very inexperienced child.
The whole day he had been worried about having to call his father and tell him the news. For a second, he had hesitated and even questioned if he even had to call him but of course he did.
No, his father probably didn't give a fuck about the art but it was a pretty big deal that the hotel employees were stealing from them.
He just didn't want to hear the inevitable disappointment and perhaps even anger for Fabian allowing this to happen by first hiring a thief and then not being at every hotel every second. Fabian was very well aware that he had screwed up and trusted his intention too much.
Then again, talking about whatever problem Asher had gave him a good reason to postpone the phone call. With that in mind, he stopped writing for what felt like the first time in hours and turned his chair so that he was staring out of the huge window from the fifteenth floor.
"What's up?" Fabian faked interest.
"Can you go get Char again? I'm at work and it's really hard for me to leave now. Her stupid car stopped working again," Asher explained, luckily not seeing how Fabian frowned in worry.
"Didn't she just get it fixed?" he asked, remembering the first time he had gotten her when they had called someone to get the broken car to fix it.
"Yeah but it's like fifty years old car so are you surprised? I have saved her ass like ten times only in this year." Tonight was the last day of January, "I told her to get a new one but she doesn't have the money yet and she's too stubborn to borrow any."
Looking at the laptop, Fabian thought about his to-do list of the day and realized that he really didn't have time to be a knight in shining armor.
Just when he was about to say no, Fabian remembered what his brother had just said about not being able to go which meant that Charlie would have to find another option. Did she have any family to call? But if she did then Asher probably wouldn't be calling Fabian.
And an Uber was out of the question because you could never know what kinds of creeps they hired. Even though they weren't even friends, Fabian could never forgive himself if something happened to her, especially if he could have helped.
Sighing, he rolled his eyes and mumbled hesitantly. "Okay. Where is she?"
Apparently, she was at the mall buying double strollers with Aurora and when she got in the car, it just didn't start. Again. Goddammit!
