Five weeks after she had fainted, Fabian was trying to get some work done while trying to ignore the dozens of messages from Nora and his mother who had arranged some meetings together.
He didn't mind that they got along but he wished that they would leave him out of their plans because he had more important things to worry about than what to eat for dinner. Speaking of dinner, he would have to order some food here and eat it alone.
While doing some work on his computer regarding a new business partner, he couldn't help but think about Charlie again, wondering how she was doing.
He had met her twice after the day she got out of the hospital and from what he had seen, she was alright and hadn't fainted again. He still remembered how it felt to get that phone call, he must have died one hundred times in that second. At least it had hurt like hell, almost even physically.
The day after, he had almost called her as soon as he woke up to hear that she was really alright and that nothing happened after he left. Thankfully, he realized quickly that she might not be awake at 6am so he had texted her to call him as soon as she could.
"I'm fine. I told you nothing would happen. Thanks for calling, though, I know you're busy. But listen, this is kinda of bad timing because I'm trying to dress Rory for the daycare. Can I call you later?" As proof, Fabian heard Aurora shouting something in the background before Charlie told her to stop running.
It was 8am and Fabian had been at work for an hour already since he wanted to leave work a bit earlier tonight, maybe even before 6pm. He needed enough time to go meet Charlie on her day off and see with his own eyes that she was really feeling good despite yesterday's fainting.
Although, maybe he should ask her first. She hadn't reacted very well when he and Asher hadn't asked her opinion about him spending the night. He had been worrying almost nonstop and barely got any sleep last night because all he could think about was Charlie fainting again, losing the baby, and hurting herself.
After he got home, Nora was already there waiting, wearing nothing else but red, lacy underwear that usually got him hard as a stone and while it still did, it was more of an automatic reaction from his body than Fabian genuinely wanting her at that moment.
Because while his fiancé was almost naked in front of him, Charlie was the only one in his mind. But since he would get slapped if he told her that, Fabian had no other choice but to fuck Nora before having to cuddle her before sleeping. He would never tell anyone that he had pictured Charlie the whole time.
When his phone started to ring again, Fabian cursed out loud and got his phone from the table to turn it off completely because those women were severely distracting him. The annoyed frown on his forehead disappeared immediately when he noticed who was calling, though, and he only got more alarmed.
"What's wrong?" Fabian asked without even greeting, sitting straight.
There was a long pause as if Charlie was nervous to say something. Then she just said, "Hey. Are you busy?"
"No," that was a lie but he would drop all of this for her. "Why? You need anything?"
"Well... I think my water broke," her voice shook. It took him a few seconds to fully comprehend what Charlie had said and when it did, Fabian had already closed the computer, not even stopping to see if everything he had worked on got saved automatically as they always should.
He had never run anywhere as fast as he did and in less than a minute, he had passed his two assistants and quickly told them - or more like shouted on his way to the elevator - to cancel all of his meetings for the rest of the day.
