"What's wrong with me?"

Why was it so hard to concentrate on working which was something that usually relaxed him? That was different today, though, because for some reason he was struggling to work.

However, it wasn't for some reason because he was well aware that it was Charlie who kept distracting him even just by existing. The two of them hadn't talked since he left her home yesterday and she had looked... unhappy with him which was probably why she had basically thrown him out of there.

Fabian was assuming that she was still annoyed about his car question, no, statement but he wouldn't apologize. That would mean that he didn't mean it or regretted saying it, and that wasn't true. As he had reminded her, that car was old, broken, and dangerous. She knew it too.

Yes, he understood that buying a new car wasn't as easy for everyone and he wasn't judging her for it. But if she didn't allow him to buy her a new car or even borrow money, he wanted her to at least start preparing to buy a new car herself and save money for it. That she had a plan for their safety.

Because Fabian was worried sick and that was silly because why would he worry about Charlie and her daughter? And by worrying, he meant caring more about them than other people on the street he didn't know.

But that was it, wasn't? He knew Charlie. Obviously, there was a lot he still didn't know about her but since meeting her more and more and texting her quite many times, he had started to understand what kind of person she was.

What her personality was. How caring, funny, and beautiful she was but also very prideful which showed once again. What a hell of a mother she was, doing everything all alone. How much he had started to look for her new messages.

That was why he was worried. Because he had started to care about her and even her daughter and their wellbeing. Because somehow, during these couple of months, she had become his friend which was the last thing he had expected to happen.

And friends took care of each other, right? Not that he had many, only two actually from a decade ago plus Charlie now. He had always tried to look after Diego and Noelle just like he wanted to make sure Charlie was doing alright too. No, better than alright.

He wanted her to be happy.

And safe.

But especially safe. And looking at her now, Fabian didn't know for sure if she was that. What he did know was that she was probably very stressed about becoming a single Mom of two, worried about their financial situation and busy doing everything all alone because some dickhead decided that he didn't want to be a father.

Okay, he didn't know for sure if that was what happened but unless the babydaddy was dead, there was no excuse for him being god knows where and leaving Charlie all alone. Thinking about that, Fabian felt himself becoming more furious for her.

He would have to ask her so that he could at least get a name. Then Fabian would get a hold of him and either force him to be a fucking father to his children or, if that wasn't happening, he would kill that son of a bitch for doing this to Charlie.

Still thinking about yesterday, Fabian sighed and took his phone, quickly sending her a message without thinking too much of it. Their argument was still messing up with his head which meant that it was bothering his work and that was unacceptable.

I'm sorry about yesterday.

She didn't answer for twenty minutes.

it's okay

Even without seeing her, Fabian had a feeling that it wasn't really okay and that she was probably still pissed off. That didn't make any sense because instead of being angry at him, shouldn't she be grateful that he had offered to help?
